Russia Turkey relations will not grow from economic to strategic

The Russia-Turkey relations will not grow from economic to strategic, especially as regards security issues, Head of the Political Science Chair of the State University of Saint Petersburg, Vladimir Gutarov says.

His colleague Valery Achkasov believes that although Turkey has been rather active in the recent period, the US keeps it under control and will not allow Turkey to implement independent policy.

The Russian political scientist says Armenian-Turkish relations will not normalize unless the US exerts financial and military-political pressure on Turkey.

Professors of the Saint Petersburg University say that the issues of the South Caucasus are in some sense the domestic issues of Russia, since the latter hosts a number of immigrants from Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan.

The Russian political scientists note that the Karabakh issue will still remain frozen and the status quo will be maintained.
