Russia tries to stave off US in Indian defence market

I didn't see you guys complain during almost 3 decades...not only that you guys were chanting the greatness of Russia as strategic ally against China and the west and now start to say bad thing about Russia when you have U.S as leverage? tsk...tsk

And yes you have to pay for developments if you guys want an military equipment to be specific to India such MKI...Russians are not to paid for the development cost of something that they will never use...even American will do the same. Despite of what ever the techincal difficulty, Russia had offered India the finest military equipments that China cound't dream of such PAK-FA :P.

Really?

Russia needs to deliver on time.

Nope, they just need to keep offering us co-developments or things that others won't provide and they will easily remain the main defence partner, because that is what really benefits us and not an on time delivery of a transport aircraft.
They mainly lost only at the competition where they offered upgraded older designs (Mi 26, IL 78, Mig 35), while FGFA, MTA, the SSN, or even the huge Mi 17 orders shows that they get the big ticket deals.

Then you haven't looked at it the right way, since India always complained to Russia about cost increases, delays or spare issues, while we praised them as a reliable defence partner, for providing us always highly capable arms and techs, without any restrictions and so on.
But back then we had no other choice than sticking with Russian stuff, even with these problems. Today we have more alternatives and that mainly from Europe and Israel and not the US and that made even the Russians understand, that they have to change their attitudes towards India. That's why we went from customised Russian fighters, to co-developed fighters, from Russian transporters to co-developed once, why they also offer MBT, helicopter, AESA radar or engine co-developments today, instead simply seeing us an export country. Russian officials themselfs stated, that they have to improve their quality and after sale support, to be more competitive on the Indian market, so no matter if you like it or not, but there won't be an issue between the Russians and India! There is simply no better and more reliable partner for them, just like they still are the best and most reliable partner for us.

Do you know what's call "learning experience"? they developped technologies to meet India military requirements and use these experiences for their own good...I see nothing wrong about that

Of course but it cuts both ways- India provided the funds and the Russians still perform sub-par. That's just not on and they are now reaping what they have sowed. Why should they think they can get all of the benefits why providing pi$$ poor service to India?

Is this how partners work? Russia takes takes takes and the second India tries to question or challenge the status quo the Russians throw a temper tantrum- it is all very funny really!
