ZHUKOVSKY: Russia will fulfill a contract on the delivery of eight Su-30MK2 fighters to Vietnam in 2010, state arms exporter Rosoboronexport said on Wednesday.

Russia and Vietnam signed a of $500 million agreement on the sale of eight Su-30MK2 fighters in January 2009.

“The contract was signed in January, and we will fulfill it in 2009-2010,” Alexander Mikheyev, deputy general director of Rosoboronexport said at the MAKS-2009 air show near Moscow.

Mikheyev said Vietnam had already made several advanced payments under the contract and the deliveries would be made in two batches of four aircraft each.

Su-30MK2 is an advanced two-seat version of the Su-27 Flanker multirole fighter with upgraded electronics and capability to launch anti-ship missiles.

Russia’s Federal Service for Military Cooperation said in June that Vietnam had expressed interest in buying additional Su-30MK2 fighters and talks on a new contract could start in the near future.

Military aircraft continue to dominate Russia’s arms exports, and are expected to total about $2.6 billion in 2009 sales.

kind of old..

:blah: (name me a newer, better naval strike aircraft that would be available to Vietnam)

Su-30MK2 is a further improvement to SU-30MKK with upgraded avionics and maritime strike capabilities. The MKK and MK2 are currently operated by the People's Republic of China, the Indonesian Air Force, and very recently, the Venezuelan Air Force

The Sukhoi Su-30MKK (with NATO reporting name as Flanker-G)[1] is a modification of the Su-27 SK manufactured since 1999 by KnAAPO and Shenyang Aircraft Corporation. It is considered an upgraded version of Sukhoi Su-30. It was jointly developed by Russia and China, similar to the Su-30MKI. It is a heavy class, all-weather, long-range strike fighter, comparable to American F-15E

They have only brought 8 planes its no big deal.

Does PAF have budget for a $50m twin engined fighter.

Different scenario, Vietnam has a very long coast line (look at the map) plus it claims the WHOLE South China Sea

Yes we have, but at the time we dont need twin engine.
Its good that PAF is focused on JF-17.

Twin engine concept will be finished soon.

Twin engine are expensive to maintain
F-35 is also single enjine.
