GRIFFIN : Our 18 submarine fleet which we are planning now is just enough for Pakistan . Chinese are considered as threat by lots scs nation but not to India . War is averted not firing bullets but showcasing them as deterrent. We must have 50 +12 ( nuclear) sub in long term . Atleast 25 is a must by 2025 . We will achieve it with Arihant class and Advanced version. We are not local power any more . Our CBG needs separate submarines for certain roles . From where will u get ?

Indian Navy had 21 subs during 80s.low purchase for 30 years made this scenario.but if India could get some 20 operational Conventional Subs by 2025,that'd be enough,as per IN.the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) approved and recommended the long term plan for the local construction of 24 submarines over 30 years in two lines in 1999.yes,India has lost some precious time, but I think,by 2030,India can achieve this target, which will be both nuclear and conventional.
about Pakistan Navy, thery're only capable for defensive war for now.I'm hearing the news of new submarine purchase for long time.IMO,even if they buy now, they'll get their first Chinese Sub around 2019-2020.PLAN is insignificant in this part and not a single country around has a Navy capable to challenge IN.the more time passes,PLAN might get more active role in this region.but if we play our cards right,we may deprive them a foothold in this region.and that means, depriving them a station to replenish their ships within thousands of KMs from their shore.that means, only some large surface vessels with replenishment vessel,or some nuclear subs on long range patrol could come anywhere near our water.so,PLAN is not our major concern, and I think,PLAN will find it difficult to to both, countering USN's growing influence around their water and projecting power in IOR.
now, about numbers, its not always required so many subs to project power.in 1980s,we had 21 subs to perform duty.but in late 80s,we purchased KILOs,which was superior to anything we had before.in mid 2000s,we've purchased Scorpene and now,we're going to get more advanced ones.and we're procuring Nuclear subs as well.it is said that one nuclear subs replaces role of 3 conventional subs, due to its longer time on station.a Conventional subs can't stay on station for longer time.so,a Nuclear Sub on patrol generally replaces 1 conventional sub on station, one that is going to replace and one that is returning from station. In my opinion,we should start making Subs with JV from either Japan(their Soryu is among the best) or Russia/France and later move towards indegenous one.along with this,we should increase our Nuclear Subs fleet as much as possible.some 6 SSBN(2 was already built,1 is in the line) and 6+ SSN must have to be achieved within 2025-2030 timeline.and I'm hopeful as our Shipbuilding capability is now capable to handle this kind of challenge.
Pakistan's ever-growing navy
that line made my day.
yessssss, ever growing, but only on dreams.their Frontline ships are F-22P and older Type-21s(Type-21s are some 40 years old already).second hand OPH is some 35 years old and soon going to be retired.that means within few years, they've to replace 6/7 frontline ships with newer Frigates.
now lets come to Submarine fleet.2 Augusta Subs are some 35+ years older, only their 3 Augusta-90B are new.we're hearing about Chinese Submarine purchase for long time, yet,no confirmation.
EVER GROWING........
