The Russian military is planning to purchase aerial drones in the United Arab Emirates, a defense industry source said Wednesday.

“We are talking about at least two United 40 Block 5 models developed by the company ADCOM Systems,” the source, who preferred to remain anonymous, told RIA Novosti.

United 40 is a medium-altitude, long-endurance unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), designed to carry out near real-time combat assessment, special and reconnaissance operations and communications relays.

The vehicle can carry up to 10 air-to-ground missiles with a delivery range of 60 kilometers and fly for up to 120 hours, according to the developer.

The United 40 Block 5 model was unveiled at this year’s IDEX arms show in Abu Dhabi in February, and the vehicle was first tested in flight in March. Its estimated cost is $20-30 million.

The Russian military stressed a need for advanced reconnaissance systems in the wake of a brief military conflict with Georgia in August 2008, when the effectiveness of Russian military operations was severely hampered by a lack of reliable intelligence.

According to various estimates, the Russian military needs up to 100 UAVs and at least 10 guidance and control systems to ensure effective battlefield reconnaissance.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said in June that aerial drones being developed in Russia for the military were inferior to similar foreign models.

Russia has reportedly signed two UAV contracts with Israel. Under the first contract, signed in April 2009, Israel delivered two Bird Eye 400 systems (worth $4 million), eight I View MK150 tactical UAVs ($37 million) and two Searcher Mk II multi-mission UAVs ($12 million).

The second contract was for the purchase of 36 UAVs, worth a total of $100 million, to be delivered in 2010. The shipment, however, has not been confirmed by the Russian Defense Ministry.

ADCOM Systems, a group of firms headquartered in Abu Dhabi, specializes in manufacturing UAVs, aerial targets, air traffic control radar systems, and advanced communication systems.

MOSCOW, July 17 - RIA Novosti. Ministry of Defense plans to purchase a limited batch of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), told RIA Novosti on Wednesday, a source in the military-industrial complex.

"It is, at least, the two complexes United Block 40 version 5 development of ADCOM Systems", - said the source.

According to information released by ADCOM, United UAV Block 40 version 5 has a fuselage S-shaped with a tandem wing span of about 20 meters and is equipped with two engines pulling screws located on pylons under the wings. UAV can be flown at altitudes up to 9,000 meters, while in the air more than 100 hours without refueling.

The target load is placed on board the UAV electro-optical and radar surveillance system. In addition, according to representatives of ADCOM, on four external hardpoints located on the rear wing can be deployed weapons, particularly missiles "air-to-surface" Yabhon-Namrod own design.

Russia's leading expert in the field of unmanned systems, editor-profile publications UAV.RU Denis Fedutinov commenting RIA Novosti this information, said that in the case of the implementation of these intentions of Russia will be the first customer in the United-40 UAV. "The system has not previously been supplied to customers from any other countries, nor to customers in the UAE. Drone in its present modification was first shown at the Salon of weapons and military equipment IDEX 2013 in Abu Dhabi in February, and the first test flight was carried out later in March this year, "- said the expert.

According to the Center for Analysis of World Arms Trade (TSAMTO), under a contract signed in April 2009, Israel delivered to Russia two Bird Eye-UAV 400 ($ 4 million), eight UAVs I-View Mk150 ($ 37 million) and two UAV Searcher Mk.2 ($ 12 million). Later, according to TSAMTO, a contract was signed, providing for the purchase of 36 UAVs, presumably, in the amount of $ 100 million. In March of this year there were reports that the Russian military-industrial corporation "Oboronprom" signed with the Israeli company IAI contract sum of 400 million dollars for the organization in the Russian Federation assembling drones type Bird Eye and Searcher.

Who could ever imagine that the Russians buy military equipment from an Arab country, the world is changing.
The new EU is the ME,the only issue left is peace.
I wonder if that would happen, who could stop the ME from becoming the center of the world.

.
India should buy few of these..though our armed drones will come within 1-2 years..but still,10 missiles..that will give us a huge capability..

India is a friend of the UAE, you guys have too strong ties with them already, with a trade volume of tens of billions of dollars everything is cool, so yeah, I would encourage India to do so, if they wish.

KSA is getting those too, in addition to the ones we built in our own.

we also has defence cooperation agreement since 2003 which provides for export and import of weapons, military training and coordination in security-related issues between us.so,there is a strong chance that we might see this bird in Indian colors..but as Indian weapon acquisition policy changes,MOD might prefer indigenous one over foreign products.but We'll(we,Indian members in PDF) be really pleased if they buy few of these..

I do know that India and the UAE had signed many agreements, but actually I wasn't aware of such an agreement like this. If that so, I'm positively sure that India will get its hands of them, either by a full ToT or building them up in the UAE.

though it might be mere guesswork that india will be interested in this, but if interested, there shouldn't have any hurdle.by the way,is there any kind of restriction on armed(hunter killer) drone export???because,USA never exported them to anyone and other countries too didn't ever published news on acquisition of armed drones.this is the first instance where I read such news..

Although i am not really optimistic regarding this, i really hope this is true. Cheers
