Russia offers India 3 additional Talwar class frigates

Why are we going for more Talwar class Frigates,
We have enough principle surface combatants, and will be inducting far more capable P-17A frigates and Kolkata class destroyers to replace the ageing Godavari class Frigates and Rajput class Destroyers
this money would have been better spent in acquiring Minesweepers and submarines.
Infact since the deal is expected to cost 1.6 Billion USD, as it is, I would have rather used this money to acquire a second Akula II class SSN

Carrier battle groups.

This news is about 3 years old, the Russians had proposed this after the last batch of 3 Talwars had been delivered to the IN. The Navy doesn't seem to have been too interested in this offer in the past 3 years so cool your heels.

The 7 P-17As are coming regardless.
