Moscow (PTI): Describing India as a "special country", Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on Thursday said Moscow wants to transform its ties with New Delhi from "buyer-seller" to "deeper relations" by expanding military ties and enhancing cooperation in nuclear energy.

"Our ties in such areas as defence, security, and arms trade were based precisely upon the buyer-seller relationship. We would like to move to deeper relations," Medvedev, who is arriving in India on Thursday night for a three-day official visit, said in an interview to Doordarshan.

"We expect to come up with some new forms of cooperation with our Indian colleagues. It could be technology exchange or new joint ventures as well as other forms of cooperation that will benefit both sides," he said.

Congratulating India for getting approval from the Nuclear Suppliers Group to do trade with member countries, he said: "with this, the development of nuclear projects and nuclear energy in India will obviously obtain in effect a fundamental, industrial foundation."

"Cooperation in the field of nuclear energy is a serious and mutually beneficial field for joint work. And we consider that during my visit the prospects in this field will be further discussed. "In the nearest future, in the nuclear area, we will be able to launch new projects," the Russian President said. Medvedev said the two countries could work together on developing a next-generation fighter jet and a supersonic cruise missile and termed it as "great interesting project".

Asked about the effect of recent accident of a nuclear-powered submarine on talks with India for the lease of a similar vessel, he said: "There is no any negative influence on our relations because, unfortunately, this sad accident... was a result of the so-called human factor."

Don't believe in words. Russia is a great friend of India but somehow it did not stop them from sending the RD-93 engines to Pakistan, so be realistic. Russia knows that India is now under the influence of its enemy. If anyone has any doubt as to how the Russians view India's relatively new found ally he should visit the Pravda forum.

apparently Mr. T-rex, you completly missed the part about building together next generation fighter jets and missiles, along with new nuclear projects.

Is Pakistan also getting this things from Russia also.

As India re-aligns itself with the US, Russia won't be moving closer to India. More so China. The US is surrounding Russia in Eastern Europe. The Russians know US and India are going to ally. Russia will probably shift to ally with China, perhaps Pakistan, depending on how the US aligns itself.

The proposition of Russia and China is not possible, since Russians have stop giving China any of there latest defense technology products because of China's past reverse engineering.

In terms of fighting with US surrounding Russia, that will depend on know who will have the deep pockets, and nothing to do with India.

In terms of India, the Russians do not want to lose there biggest customers, so they will compete and give India all the concession it needs, and not buy from the americans. It is very simple as that. MONEY.

India has never and will never allign itself with Usa. We know USA very well. We have got the NSG approval, now just wait and watch where all the orders for building the civilian nuclear reactors goes to...

Sorry but when the US grabs your call center economy by the throat you will be doing whatever you are told. It will just take a little time for it to sink in and bypass your egos but trust me, it will happen. ;)

I would have to disagree,in this age of diplomacy, economic inter-dependency and a world increasingly moving to become a multi-polar world no country would like to alienate or isolate the other.

Despite all what Indians think and the enmity between China and India, look at the trade figures-$60billion and counting...

Sure India is moving towards US but the Russians would try to pull us back to their side with whatever incentives they have got.

Each country is trying to court the other and improve relations.NATO and Russia have again resumed contact with each other after it got soured due to Georgia-Russia war.

What that attracts everybody to India is the huge Indian market and its consumers-everybody wants a piece of it.
Isolation is not the name of the game but engagement economic or otherwise, because no country can afford to antagonize the other.:)
Nations have to compete with other.

So yes Pak-Russian relations may improve and so would Russia-China relations but they would do so independent of Indo-US relations.

Apparently they are smoky engines:lol:. They are making a lot of money by selling them to you. IIRC. Pakistan's ACM was not happy with this engine.

No it wont happen. It simply doesnt work that way. The call centre or whatever economy you are talking is bi-lateral. We do their work they pay us. Without them or their call centres our economy is strong and fine.

Admiral Gorshkov
Akula-II
Krivak-III advanced Frigates
80 Helo's
Nuke Deal
Nuke Reactors
T-90 Tanks

all the above sold

On cards

MiG-35
300+ helo's

Now compare this with the value proposition of RD-93 engines.

No it is not fine at all, you are just deluding yourself. Your economy will shrink by about 15% and your current accounts will go from surplus to deficit. The US can take away those jobs and contracts easier than you think and now that the recession in the US is becoming a depression there might actually be laws passed by congress that start cutting. It's not the 15% shrinkage that will kill you but the big black hole of foreign exchange deficits. And guess who will buy your call center outsourcing if the US pulls out? That's right--nobody. It's not like you are exporting manufactured goods here.

These call center and software jobs are nothing more than a handout which is a puppet string that can make you dance to the tune of the US.

India is not foreign investment and export centric country like you have suggested, that is china.

Yes it is. It is called Service busniess, and right know American grows more in service sector then manufacturing.

And to sum your whole argument, India does have a healthy internal economy that it still can thrive on. Unlike China does not. I can provide you links on this issue, if you do not believe me.

I never said India is foreign investment-centric nor export-centric. However India is a huge economy and needs to export about as much as it imports. The reason for the $250 billion trade surplus is because American companies pay US dollars to outsource their call center work, software development and other peripheral tasks.

I said the Indian economy would shrink by 15% if the white collar outsourcing was snatched away and I believe that to be true.

Yes it is. It is called Service busniess, and right know American grows more in service sector then manufacturing.

That has nothing to do with what I said. India provides for the most part, very non-vital services for cheap to the US. This business relationship is most definately not critical to the US but it is critical to India because without this handout the Indian trading balance sheets would go in the red.

What exactly is a healthy internal economy, how do you even define it? China produces twice the goods and twice the services that India produces with about the same amount of working people. Does that make the Indian economy healthier than the chinese economy? :what:

I highly doubt that it is no critical cheap outsourcing. Just to give example, IRS does majority of the processing in India, or medical data bases where doctors received information are done in India, just to name a few. These are important part of US. America is not doing India any favors by outsourcing, it is part of business where price and quality wins.
