That's true, but don't you think that ToT is really beneficial up to a certain point? For example, wouldn't it be smarter to be able to produce the vital items that would be cut off, like you said, such as spare parts and weapons. Those are the more pressing things during times of war since they're smaller, easier to handle and are more in demand. Egypt should really develop it's own A/A missile and PGM's with corresponding hardware/software to integrate them in all or even just some of its aircraft. Problem is getting the source codes from the Americans who will most likely never allow that. Not sure if the French or Russians would, but that can be figured before going into the plan. It's a big task and unlikely to happen, but seems like the best option IMO.
Well... you can do both...acquire ToT and dev Missiles and such... .
The problem Egypt do not have a strategic partner who will help her dev those critical pcs... RU will not, same for the US and same for CN ( at least non criticals one)... The only in the Region who could do so with JV and such, will be Turkey via their State owned Def industries... Like they have done with KSA /UAE etc... (Aselsan/Havelsan and Rokestan in the future...). But since Egypt and Turkey do not share "good" relationship... thing like that will not happen soon...
Egypt is acquiring some type of ToT ( limited ones, but at least some) like the Vessels manufacturing with French Shipbuilder... But it's quitly lacking behind major player in the region... and that's a problem.
Only buying has it's limits... you have to be under the influence of someone/thing...
