I don't know if Russia would actually use military power, but this is important because it shows that there are people within the Russian power structure who would call for militarily defending Iran. This is significant when comparing to the weak Russia of the 90s.

100%, same with Syria. However an attack on Iran or Syria, means WWIII. plus the Joint Defense Agreement between Syria and Iran, i think that might do something.
