Russia expected to place order for MiG-35

Russia will place an order for the Mikoyan MiG-35 ‘Fulcrum F’ multirole fighter aircraft in the first half of 2013, the CEO of Mikoyan believes.

“We hope to sign a contract in the first half of 2013,” Sergei Korotkov stated in an interview published on Mikoyan’s website on 23 April.

“Negotiations are under way [for a MiG-35 order] and are at an advanced stage,” Korotkov added, continuing that “we are counting on the fact that they will be completed this year, [with] the conclusion of the contract.”

Mikoyan has long been seeking an order for its MiG-35, the latest variant of its ‘Fulcrum’ fighter stable, derived from the original MiG-29, which first entered service in 1983. However, the company has seen far less success with its offerings than rival Sukhoi, which has seen continued domestic and export success with its Sukhoi Su-27 ‘Flanker’ and derivative aircraft to the point analysts have questioned whether Mikoyan will be able to maintain its operations.

Mikoyan, historically a design bureau, is currently in the process of merging with aircraft factory Nizhny Novgorod Aircraft Plant ‘Sokol’, where the MiG-35 is planned to be built when a production order is received.

Nope, it's an out and out Air Superiority platform just masqerading as a multirole. Anyways the thread is about RuAF placing the order, nothing to do with India or pakistan.

Right smartypants, did you even read the MMRCA project outline?...It will be China centeric....where it will face stealth air crafts

We cannot go offensive with China ie deep intrusion . IAF too knows that and it is unlikely that we will have a conflict with China . Considering the RCS of Su30Mki it can provide effective border security w.r.t China supported by other aircrafts of IAF . If we can get PAKFA in time , that would be China centric replacing the MRCAs very purpose ie to counter China . History says that its only Pakistan that provokes us for war and IAF loses many fighters though India wins the war , so Su30Mki mostly wont be the front line fighter after a decade , LCA would be an interceptor and not for attacking deep targets . So Mig35 would be a better option for IAF in near future . We can always induct PAKFA and FGFA in large numbers to counter China even if AMCA gets delayed .

This has NOTHING to do with the IAF guys, the Mig-35 didn't meet the IAF's technical criteria and is was booted out of the MMRCA competition the IAF is now all in with the Rafale and there is almost zero likelihood of a separate order as the IAF is looking to cut down the diversity of its fleet not increase it. Other than low cost there is almost nothing the Mig-35 brings to the IAF that it doesn't already have of won't get in the next few years.

Point 1 : For deep intrusion the aircraft needs to have better airsuperiority role like Eurofighter , Su35 , Su30Mki .
Point 2 : Mig35 can carry short range rockets that can destroy tactical targets and small military establishments .
Point 3 : It can carry cruise missiles .
Point 4 : It can carry LGB and heavy bombs .
All makes it a multirole fighter with AESA and TVC .

One of the reason why we dint go for Mig35 is Russia didnt buy it , we rejected as we might have problem in maintenance and spares .

Man .. if nothing IAF should pick up 10 od the Mig 35 OVT's for it's flying display team... Stuff these OVTS can do is almost un believable.
