Hmm, that seems to defy logic, that they are developing a new replacement for it. The link says that the replacement could be a variant of existing aircrafts, like the Su-35 or PAKFA. Only then does it make sense.

I don't think any other country is developing an aircraft purely for interception (and related) roles, right? What is it about Russia that they need such a thing? Especially now, in the age of multirole aircrafts becoming the norm?

Vast area, uninhabited... and the need to reach an area really fast with a massive radar.. to handle bombers such as the B-2.

One of the reason why we dint go for Mig35 is Russia didnt buy it , we rejected as we might have problem in maintenance and spares .

Not really, if we thought it would be a good fighter for our needs, we would have taken it, even if Russia didn't buy it. We bought Su 30s and Mig 29Ks, years before Russia did the same for their forces.

The fact however is, that it's simply a bad choice for IAF, while the Mig 29K was the only choice for IN and both actually prefer the Rafale, for good reasons.
Btw, the Mig has no cruise missiles, not even Kh 59 as of now, which means Brahmos mini is the only hope for long range strike for this platform in Indian service.
