‘Russia does not plan to sell fighter jets, weapons to Pakistan’: report

Russia has no plan to sell fighter jets, air defence systems and tanks to Pakistan, reported an Indian publication The Economic Times, dismissing a recent claim by Defence Minister Khurram Dastgir Khan on the proposed purchase.

According to the publication, the statement made by the Pakistan minister in a recent interview was more “on the lines of Pakistan foreign minister’s claim in February of Russian support at the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) plenary, which turned out to be false”.

“There has been no discussion about Russian intentions to sell such defence equipment to Pakistan,” the report quoted an unnamed Russian official as saying.

The official version of the government on the matter, however, is yet to come.

Last week, Defence Minister Khurram Dastgir Khan had said that Pakistan is negotiating procurement of sophisticated military hardware, including air defence systems, fighter jets and battle tanks with Russia.

The minister confirmed that Islamabad was interested in buying weapons from Moscow in an interview to Russian news agency Sputnik, in which he also talked about increased cooperation with Kremlin which mirrors Pakistan’s wider geo-strategic concerns.

“Air defence system is a different kind of weapon we are interested. We are very much interested in a very wide range of the Russian weapons technology. We are in negotiations [on air defence systems] and once we conclude negotiations, we will be able to announce them,” Khan said.

The defence minister also outlined that Islamabad was interested in acquiring T-90 tanks from Moscow as part of a long-term deal rather than committing itself to a single purchase.
“We are interested in tanks T-90 and it is not going to be a one-time purchase but it is going to be a long-term commitment,” Khan stated.

He added that negotiations for the purchase of Russian Su-35 fighter jets are in their early stages, and an agreement in this regard may be reached “in the next few years”, according to the Russian website.

. .
Why would we buy the T-90? We have a better tank than that already. The only think I can imagine we'd be interested in is SAM systems.

.
Russia will sell everything to Pakistan provided we show them cold hard cash. India has jumped into the western bandwagon and Russia knows this. Plus Russia is also selling its hardware to China, another rival of India. As long as we have cash, nobody can deny us anything.

You have already been denied.
Memory is short.

.
The day pakistan can provide more cash and leverage to Russia than india, Russia will sell their main weapons to pakistan but as of now there is no possibility.

Denied? What are we denied off when we havent even asked for. Did we ask Russia for anything? The last order was of Mi-35 and they are being delivered.

Try again

In talks does not equate to officially ask for anything. Has Pakistan opened a tender to purchase anything from Russia for which they have refused? The minister only highlighted Pakistan's interest in Russian hardware.
And here I thought English was your first language.

Why would you open a tender when you are buying from Russia ,it becomes a single vendor situation lolzzz.
Your Minister might have requested a RFI from Rosoboronoexport , and Russia probably replied with a blank stare and a WTF moment. So the talks couldn't progress from the RFI stage .
Why would Russia piss off New Delhi ???

We have not asked Russia for anything but merely showed our interest. Try to read the link you just posted above. Just dont copy paste it for the sake of it. We have not opened any negotiations with the Russians on any item or have we?.
As to why piss New Delhi, Russia can ask the same question why piss the bear by joining the western bang wagon? But wait you already did so why do you think Russia will treat you differently?
And just to prove my point, did this stopped Russia from selling Pakistan engines for JF-17? It did not stopped Russia from selling us Mi-35.

.
Isnt this thread about Russia denying us? Anyway if you like to put it this way please do tell who refused Pakistan what exactly?
Search for pakistan + gripen on PDF.
It has been discussed multiple times.
