Russia backed China’s law on Hong Kong slamming “external interference” on Thursday, and maintaining that the world must respect the territorial sovereignty of China. These remarks were aired by Russia’s foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova at a video-conference meeting.

Speaking at a video conference in Moscow, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called the situation in Hong Kong “a purely internal affair” of China.

Russia backs China: opposes ‘external interference‘ in Hong Kong

Russia opposes foreign meddling in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said Thursday.

“If we all respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the People’s Republic of China, and I think there is no doubt about that, then we should consider the situation in Hong Kong as a purely internal matter of China. This also implies our Russian position: we are categorically against external interference in relations between the central government and one of the country’s regions,” she said.

Does the same not apply to Crimea and Ukraine?

Russia cannot have it both ways.

Crimea returned to Russia, Hong-Kong returned to China.

Russia went back on it's word to respect the territorial integrity of Ukraine just like China went back on it's word to respect the autonomy of Hong Kong for 50 years till 2047.

The 2 countries have something in common there.

You have no idea what you are talking about, what we got from the 1997 handover was the HK Basic Law.

The HK Basic Law in Article 23 says that HK must enact a national security law, and it also says that Mainland Chinese laws do not apply to HK unless they are listed in Annex III of the Basic Law and applied by local legislation.

Our autonomy was never meant to apply to anything related to defence, national security or foreign relations.

It was West who began to break words - no NATO East to Germany and so on. And then you plan to expel Russian fleet from Sevastopol! It is unthinkable! It is like expel British fleet from Liverpool or where is it.
Besides, do you know majority of Eastern Ukrainians want to reunite with Mother Russia as Crimeans did? Or people's will means nothing for you?

Or people's will means nothing for you?

They don't care about the people's will, they just pretend to.

The vast majority of people in Crimea want to be a part of Russia, yet they don't care.

The vast majority of their own people didn't agree with the Iraq War, yet they don't care.

Democracy to them is just a tool to prove their own superiority, in truth the elites still rule just as before. Democracy is supposed to mean that the PEOPLE rule, not the elites. When has that ever happened?

Plz return Kashmir to Pakistan
Pakistan's rationale for walking into IoK and annexing it is actually very similar to Russia's justification for annexing Crimea.

There are our ethnic kinsmen in Kashmir. India cannot or will not look after them properly. India abrogated their previously guaranteed autonomy unilaterally, by military force and threat of and actual violence. Hence, we have the same right Russia has vis-a-vis Crimea.

Article date suggests it has nothing whatsoever to do with Galwan.

I.e. Chanakya as usual....
