Russia agrees to lease India a second Akula SSN K-322 Kashalot for ten years

You are thinking about past events and the gratitude which has been paid in full with interest in time and then some more.
It was not me who brought Mig 21 in the discussion...check your post above and please follow what you just preached...
Yes, we are doing them a favor, we are doing us a favor. No more. No less.
A country which is dependent on world for 70% of her defense needs can't do anybody a favor...We need to pay to keep our defenses in tact.....there is a demand, there is a market to supply....we get what we pay for...no more no less...

I bought mig21 to prove a different point. Spares ?

Yes. I agree. We should get what we pay for, in time, with enough spares. We ARE paying for it. No unnecessary misplaced cold war era gratitude.

Thank you.
Agreed....however there was never a gratitude..it was always national interests which made both countries converge towards each other....Russia has shared there latest and greatest technology with us and we have paid for it....apart from that no rip-off with Indian label on their products...

Hi,

Russia thinks India is a big fat wallet. Case in point every single piece of Russian equipment we have bought. Since mig21.

They don't want us to change camps to western. Hence this goody. Just to remind us.

Plus, they are in dire shit. Due to false Russian bravado.

They need this more than us. Fact.

Thank you.

P.S. : imagine you have no heart and think. Thanks again !

Dude what is wrong with you. Which will give things for free. India is not another provinces of Russia or other way arround. Even if you pay money No western powers will share critical technology. I don't want to go into what Russians did to us so we save our ***. But let me tell you Indo Russians partnership is more based on trust. Like anyday both countries can proudly or blindly say they won't do anything which will destabilize peace. Russia won't have defensive India. So does we.

Indo - Russians Bhai Bhai . :yahoo::yahoo::yahoo:

please stick to the topic

Correction, ussr had shared. Russia has shared, I mean sold more important stuff to Chinese. For example, they sell flankers to both India and China. One of the reasons why we went for western avionics in a proven airframe and proven missiles. This Russia will sell mig29s to Pakistan too in time. In another 5-10 years. Flankers too. Wait and see...

Ok mate ! Indo Russian bhai bhai ! :enjoy:

We should be buying Russian tech more than their products.

That Russians won't.

Case in point, pakfa. What design are we gonna do in the fgfa ? Not much. Not worth our money. It has become an mki program. Just to scare us, they even asked Brazil for co development in the middle of "co-development" with us. Cause we were not releasing funds like they wanted us to. Heh !

Anyway, I'll shut up now. Indo-Russia bhai bhai..

Dude are kidding me? We need Russian than we need them . FGFA is supposed to be MKI . What is wrong with you. If today India ready give money for Nimitz class AC will Us give them to INDIA ? But Russians are ready to share Nuclear Subs,AC, Strategic Bombers. what else do expect from ur friendly country. Don't derail this amazing thread. Am looking for more info on SSN we are getting

Although Antic piece, this Akula 32 will provide india much needed boost in underwater deep lying strike capability. Record setting14 days trailing enemy sub underwater says a lot about its capabilities. Welcome addition to INs fast depleting submarine force. :welcome:

That being said 100 million a year seems a lot.

:close_tema::

these submarines including Chakra will be used only for Training purposes during the peace time, incase of war they'll never leave the port

Russia should also lease the crew before Indian crew burns it

After getting this, there is a chance that we will go for 3rd Akula too.

$ 100 million seems to be too steep every year.

For heavens sake! We could make a sub with this value X 10 years!

And why are we actually leasing it? We already are training on the Chakra.

Once Arihant is in, we will already be halfway to getting Aridhaman.

What's the use of this then?

Akula class are very silent they have some Japanese technology inside of them also which the Russians acquired

When they say the deal is worth $1 Billion, it doesn't automatically translate into $100 million per year as cost of leasing. That'd be absurd. That amount includes the cost of the deep overhaul i.e. modernization of the SSN. Now the cost of deep overhaul of the USN Los Angles class SSN is reportedly $406 million per boat. I'd assume somewhere between $300-400 million of the $1 billion costs would be spent on the overhaul.

But that aside, of course we could make an SSN in 10 years. However, the cheapest price tag would exceed $2 Billion per boat. The INS Arihant itself costs $2.9 Billion.

Finally, for the need: The IN wants an SSN providing long range, extended endurance escort for each of the carriers. Also there is a definite requirement for SSNs for blue water patrolling in the south eastern part of the IOR. So, we need more than just 2. Again, the Navy is trying to make do with the bare minimum.

How is leasing going to change that?

We should be owning our own SSNs and must push for more funds to accelerate the existing programs.

Leasing means we are simply using it; ownership still remains foreign.
