Russia to lease K-322 Kashalot Nuclear Submarine to India.

Great. Undersea platform getting boosted. We need to maintain a fleet of 40 subs.
Well out plan is to use atleast
18 SSKs.
8 SSNs( 6 Indigenous+ 2 on lease).
5-6 SSBNs( 3 arihant class+ follow on class).

@Ifrit Sir how do you see it ? What option does we have ? Shall we go for nuke sub ? does this acquisition by India make a difference to us ?

the purpose of this lease is to train for the Arihant, which is based upon the design of these subs.
Why do you need two for training ? or fully armed and user specific additional torpedo tubes ?

Because just having them for training for the Arihant would be a ridiculous waste of money. India wants an indigenous nuke attack sub later on and being able to have such platforms where it can both train and use in case of conflict makes sense.

Yupp that is the official narrative.
Although given that Arihant class (6000 tons) weighs half of the Akula II (12770 Tons), Has half the power (83mw compared to 190Mw), has a Single Prime Prop compared to Electro aux + Prime for the Akula II, Arihant has 6x 533 mm Torp Tube compared to 4x533mm + 4x650mm torp tube (with 533mm adapter for the Nerpa) and lastly Akula II uses Shark Gill Sonar Suite compared to the USHUS on the Arihant, I am still a bit perplexed if the training is relegated to running around in a Pressurized Vessel, or actual combat preparedness and transition.
But then again if the Ministry say's it must be. Who am I to suggest anything different.

The training may not be confined to the Arihant, or otherwise and involves more about how to work a nuclear sub with its different propulsion and power generation requirements(and dangers) than anything else.
In addition, there is literally NOTHING else the Russians could have loaned that was smaller than the Akula for training.

Training will definitely be one of its role but not the only one. Also by the time It will arrive( 2018), Arihant would be commissioned for some time. Its main role will be to escort Ins Vikrant which will be commissioned at the same time It will arrive.
