What's new

Russia agreed on a contract to supply 46 MiG fighters to Egypt

Ah, the stability excuse.
Anyways, congratulations to Sisi for getting 48 new planes to defend himself.
So in your opinion sisi is buying these aircrafts to protect himself from protestors.
I see few problems in that theory
1- why would he spend millions on something like rafael when he can spend fraction of that money to buy a weapon which would be much more effective against ( protesters) armed militias like an attack helicopter.
2- if he was buying weapons to fight an uprising why did he buy the S300 or the fremme.
3- the army did not protect mubarak or fight for him although they were more than capable of doing so nor did they protect morsi when the people took to the streets against his rule so why would they protect sisi.

I actually enjoy proving them MB supporters ĺwrong although I know that what ever I do they wouldn't change their opinion (the bullshit they were spoon feed by MBs)

48 will mean 3 squadrons if you have 16 Fighter Jets in one squadron in Most Air Force its 18 or 16 in one squadron

The common range is 12 to 24 ACs per squadron, mate. Just like regiment / battalion size, it's variable.
The IOC of the F-35 in AF will be at 10 -12 planes in the first squadron, for instance.

But I'd agree with your 3 on the basis of keeping an attrition / maintenance reserve.

Have a good day, Tay.

An EAF's squadron has 12 aircraft. That's why we bought 24 Rafales. 2 squadrons.

Egyptian fighter order a shot in the arm for RSK-MiG
Reuben F Johnson, Kiev - IHS Jane's Defence Weekly
28 May 2015
The imminent sale by Russia of 46 Mikoyan MiG-29 fighters to Egypt, reported by Russian business daily Vedomosti on 25 May, was stated to be worth about USD2 billion, making it the largest order for the MiG-29 since the fall of the Soviet Union.

The MiG-29 contract would follow the announcement in February that Egypt is buying 24 Dassault Rafale multirole fighters, continuing Egypt's history of operating both French and Russian combat aircraft that dates back to 1973. Using Russia and France as suppliers also insulates Egypt from any US sanctions affecting its fighter fleet, as happened in the wake of the July 2013 coup when Washington froze the transfer of defence items such as Lockheed Martin F-16 fighters.

1.) Last time I checked, armed militias have to be fed, trained, given money, etc. and are very easily killed. Meanwhile, a jet is very hard to shoot down.
2.) Again, I said in my general statement that he was protecting his throne, and the biggest threat to anyone's throne is the population. Why would he buy S-300 esp. when Israel, Libya, or Sudan won't attack? Don't ask me, ask him.
3.) Why would they protect sisi? There is this little thing in this world called Money.

1)You didn't get the first point I meant buying an attack helicopter would be much more effective and much cheaper as well.
2) I don't need to ask him the answer is obvious the same reason almost all countries have armies although most of them are unlikely to use them because it is better safe than sorry.
3) mubarak had money and it didn't protect him and I think mubarak had more money than sisi have right now given that he ruled for 30 years

I've never seen an airforce purchase so much in just a single year. Good for EAF!

Because the obsolete 150+ aircraft (Mig-21 + F-7 + Mirage 5) all need to be replaced immediately, all the neighboring air forces are advancing, the EAF modernization was halted because of the 2011 uprising , so now they have to catch up fast to the surrounding threats.

1.) As I said, they are needed for "general defence," even though that doesn't apply (he worships Israel and Sudan/Libya have no capacity to attack.)
2.) But this army protects itself and its throne, not the people. Rabaa.
3.) Money didn't protect him? He killed a few hundred protesters, was corrupt as hell, etc. and he got ACQUITTED. Morsi ordered no one's killing and he got sentenced to death.

Their is no way you have 12 Air Craft in one squadron that I can assure you

Why Zarvan? Because you said so? That's unusually childish of you , man!

A Soviet land-based squadron counted 27 planes.
A regular US Navy one has 12 but specialty ones in the USMC go down to 7 or less.

Why should the opinion of a foreigner be so important in regard with the answer of an Egyptian?
Come on, mate! You're better than that! Squadron size varies from air force to air force, time to
time and between air / marine / transport /etc units, accept that!
Minimum squadron size I saw personally was 2 by the way, for special purpose ACs but still true.

Calm down and have a good day, Tay.

Every source seems to say Mig 29 (un less I went blind or simply lazy). Which is it?
Mig 29 or 35?
