RSS demands sealing of Indo-Bangladesh border after land pact

. . .
It is your Bangaldeshis who smuggle Kerosense and other things from Bharat. Why don't you stop your Bangaldeshis from doing that?

We can stop in our side only. Not on the other side of border where Indian smugglers operate.

.
We can stop in our side only. Not on the other side of border where Indian smugglers operate.
If you stop on your side, how will the Smugglers get trucks from our side into your country?
That doesnt seem like logical to me.You allow them because your Security forces get a cut.It is not our citizens who operate this smuggling racket on the border but Your countrymen.

.
Stop smuggling from your side. Why we should bother?

You got it wrong. India should charge Bangladesh for every Bangladeshi trying to cross into India and thereby stepping on a landmine.

Mining of borders is not an uncommon practice and you support that as well. Landmines are also good choice for area-denial.

My only point is, we should be charging Bangladesh for each Bangladeshi stepping on a landmine. Take it as a way Bangladesh sincerely trying to contribute to the cause of stopping illegal immigration. They got their own country, should learn to live there as well. If no Bangladeshi is crossing the border, then nobody is stepping on landmines, then no charges...That should be a fair deal.

That doesnt seem like logic to me.

Bangladesh has BGB which is of 70,000. And many of them are situated inside the barracks. Also help in local law enforcement. Protecting 4000 km is impossible.
So how the people take the trucks in Indian territory and get back without Indian help? Doesnt seem logical to me.

Seems to me a fair deal. But set up the mines first.

Our border is not fenced. Most of the papers of transit are forged by smugglers. But Most of smuggling happens from West Bengal, there you have a good presence of BGB,they can check the smugglers.

.
Ya but cross border illegal traders are indian stooges and contributed for indian economy making holes in BD economy. So RSS must rehabiliate them.
Fencing can stop cross border illegal trade and smuggling.

Come on guys even the Bangladeshi envoys statements are coming out that they are happy with the border accord.

Happy that border accord finalised with India: Bangladesh envoy | Zee News

New Delhi: Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Bangladesh likely in the first week of June, the country's envoy Syed Moazzem Ali on Thursday expressed happiness over the Land Boundary Agreement with Bangladesh has been "finally settled".

"I express my deep appreciation to Prime Minister Modi and his government for the farsightedness and wisdom shown in early conclusion of LBA," said Ali.

According to the high commissioner, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina "actively pursued the negotiations" on the land swap deal with Modi during their meetings, both in New York in September last year and in Kathmandu, where the two leaders met on the sidelines of the SAARC summit in November last year.

Besides, Hasina was also "directly in touch" with Modi, the envoy said.

He hailed the resolution of the two border issues, including the maritime boundary and the LBA.

In January this year, the UN tribunal ruled in favour of Bangladesh in the maritime border dispute and awarded it 19,467 sq. km of the 25,602 sq. km sea area of the Bay of Bengal.

Ali said with the LBA and the UN ruling on the maritime border, the settlement of their borders was done. "Good borders make for good neighhours", he said, adding that it can otherwise lead to tension.

Speaking at a programme organised by the Indian Association of Foreign Affairs Correspondents, Ali said he hoped the process of implementation of the Land Border Agreement "will start soon and the process completed in a matter of months".

The land swap agreement envisages transfer of 111 enclaves with a total area of 17,160.63 acres from India to Bangladesh, while 51 enclaves with an area of 7,110.02 acres are to be transferred to India. A 6.1-km undefined border stretch will be demarcated with the bill being passed.

On Modi's proposed visit to Bangladesh, the envoy said that hectic preparations are on but that "no date has so far been finalized".

He said the details of the programmes, including the places Modi is likely to visit, are being worked out.

Ali also said that there has been significant progress in terms of bilateral relations and praised the Indian government's "neighbours first" policy and the sub-regional integration.

Ali said "If India has to look east, the first country it will look upon will be Bangladesh".

On May 7, the Indian parliament passed the constitutional amendment bill relating to the Land Boundary Agreement with Bangladesh.

Ministry for Development of North-East Region

New security initiatives mooted for Northeast: Dr. Jitendra Singh

The Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr. Jitendra Singh convened here today a meeting of Senior Intelligence Officers of Government of India and security experts to discuss new innovative security initiatives which could be undertaken in the Northeast with a view to successfully accomplish the development plans and projects in the region.

The meeting, among others, was attended by National Security Adviser, Shri Ajit Doval, Chairman, Joint Intelligence Committee, Shri R.N. Ravi, Director Intelligence Bureau, Shri Dineshwar Sharma, Ex.DG, BSF, Shri E.N. Rammohan, Ex.DG, ITBP & CRPF, Shri Vikram Srivastava, Dr. Satyapal Singh, IPS (Retd.) Member of Parliament and Shri Vishnu Dayal Sharma, IPS (Retd.) Member of Parliament.

Dr. Jitendra Singh said, the idea to hold such a meeting was inspired by the realization that developmental works undertaken by the Government of India in Northeast could achieve their optimum utility and progress only in the presence of compatible security environment. Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi had himself taken keen interest in all the issues related to Northeast and in fact today’s security related exercise was also inspired and encouraged by him, he added.

There were certain issues and problems peculiar to Northeast, said Dr. Jitendra Singh, and therefore these required to be dealt with exclusively. He referred to a number of suggestions which had emerged in relation to improving the security scenario in the region. These included the suggestion for modernisation of police as well as “Police modernisation grant” for Northeastern States and redeployment in the region of the existing forces like Assam Rifles and ITBP. Although, he said, the issues, per se, pertain to Ministry of Home Affairs but since these had a strong bearing on development activities, economy and ‘Act East Plan’, the DoNER Ministry had undertaken upon itself the exercise to study and gather relevant security inputs and place them before the concerned authorities and the Ministry of Home Affairs for their perusal.

A number of suggestions were also made from the point of view of identifying trade corridors intra-regionally among the Northeastern States as well as with the countries across the eastern borders and a suggestion for “integrated” check posts was also put forward for consideration. Alienation of people leading to agitations and road-blockades affected both the economy as well as development activity and therefore a blueprint was sought to be developed to deal with these related problems.

The meeting decided that very soon, an exercise will be begun by identifying the most sensitive districts of the region from security point of view and deliberating on the roadmap ahead through presentations by security officials working on the ground as well as by veteran experts and security scholars who specialised in dealing with Northeast.

Indo-Bangla friendship bus arrives from Dhaka | Zee News
Last Updated: Saturday, May 23, 2015 - 18:43
Dawki: The Indo-Bangladesh friendship bus that began its journey from Dhaka arrived here on Saturday amid tight security.

The 26-seater BRTC bus that left Dhaka with over 20 Bangladesh government officials at around 3 pm yesterday arrived here at 9 am and Meghalaya Transport Corporation Manager Anthony Pariat received the entourage.

Aimed at improving people-to-people contact, the bus is expected to foster friendships and contacts between the residents of the two neighbouring countries and slated to be officially launched next month.

Bangladesh Road Transport and Bridges Ministry Joint Secretary Md Azharul Islam Khan said they halted at Sylhet for the night before resuming their journey at 7:30 am today.

The security and custom checks took nearly three hours causing an additional delay to the journey that should have been completed within nine hours travel time, he said.

Khan said the minor glitches will be worked out between the officials of the two countries and expressed hope the bus would make a daily run in the very near future.

Among the other concerns, according to Khan, was the narrow old iron bridge at Dawki and also the snaky climb up the hills from Dawki onwards where the road is under construction.

The bus passed through Meghalaya state capital, Shillong, about 100 km north of here, at around 3:15 pm and proceeded ahead for lunch of the those on board, at a state-owned resort on the bank of the scenic Umiam lake.

Bangladesh Road transport minister Obaidul Quader had flagged off the bus service at the Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) depot.

An agreement and a protocol is due to be signed between the two countries before the services were introduced, another official on the bus said.

Quadar hoped the leaders of both the countries will sign the agreement during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's possible visit next month.

The bus will return to Dhaka on Monday via Shillong again.

Suggests collaboration in climate change, transportation and agriculture
A partnership between New Delhi and Dhaka to save the rare ecosystem of the Sundarbans and that agreement should be signed in a boat — that was Union Minister Suresh Prabhu’s suggestion as Environment Minister in 1998 to his counterpart in Dhaka which could not be carried out.

Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Dhaka, Mr. Prabhu, who now holds the portfolio of Railways, said his earlier suggestion could still be followed up with more such agreements between the two nations on various other fronts including climate change, transportation and agriculture.

Sundarbans ecosystem
“I proposed to my counterpart [then] that the Sundarbans is one common ecosystem, when the tigers go from India to Bangladesh and from there to here, they don’t need any passport or visa, no custom can stop them ... why not we, therefore, conserve the rarest ecosystem in the world. I proposed I will come from this side on a boat; you come from that side ... I think we should try to do that soon. We will have to do so many things together, this is one of them,” he said addressing the sixth India-Bangladesh friendship dialogue on “Bangladesh-India relations: bilateralism and beyond.”

Having ratified the four-decade-old India-Bangladesh Land Border Agreement, New Delhi is keen to extend its partnership with Bangladesh to areas such as climate change, energy and transportation, he said. Pitching for a joint water management between the two countries, Mr. Prabhu said: “It will be a great advantage to do joint water management, and save us from natural disasters; floods cause more damage than draught. If we put up a joint water management front with India, Bangladesh and even Nepal, without taking away anyone’s water, we can meet the challenge of climate change.”

Energy cooperation
He suggested collaboration even in the field of agriculture, and setting up of a grid for energy cooperation. “India and Bangladesh are trying to work together in the sector of railways, I have extended an invitation to my Bangladeshi counterpart,” he said.
