RSS-backed body wants Ayurveda, Siddha in "integrated" medicine curriculum

. . .
On science and technology curriculum, the Hindu Education Board said Indic knowledge and traditions can be helpful for students. "For instance, computer science students may benefit by learning about works of Panini and other Bhartiya linguists."

i wonder what that means.

vedic operating system and vedic microprocessor??

When I was in my final year.... One of the most reputed books of Internal Medicine (CMDT) had a chapter (small chapter in a huge book) dedicated to alternative system of medicines. Was a good read. Though it was never asked in exams. Meanwhile they added the chapter because there was some evidence of effectiveness of alternate medicine therapies (compared to placebos), even though they were not strict science...!!

I guess its best left to academicians to decide.......!!!

Kozhikode will host the third edition of the Global Ayurveda Festival (GAF) and Arogya Expo, said to be the largest biennial get-together of Ayurveda fraternity from January 29 to February 2.

About 5,000 delegates from 50 countries will take part in the conclave of Ayurveda enthusiasts at the Swapna Nagari here. Manifold stakeholders of Ayurveda including practitioners and students, manufactures, hospitals, medical plant growers, government and non-government agencies, service organisations, and civil society organisations will be part of the mega event.

The GAF is being organised by the Centre for Innovation in Science and Social Action in association with the State government, Department of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH), Ayurvedic Medicine Manufacturers Organisations of India, Ayurveda Drug Manufactures Association and Kerala State Indian Systems of Medicine of Medicine Self Financing Management Association, State Department of AYUSH, Department of Tourism and Department of Industry. The State AYUSH Department has appointed a nodal officer for the effective coordination of the event, organising committee chairman, P. Madhavan Kutty Warrier, convener M.M. Sanil Kumar and general convener Manoj Kaloor, told a news conference here on Saturday.

The GAF has been positioned as the destination festival on Ayurveda in the State to bridge the great native medicinal tradition with the global community that remains curious to gather knowledge, care, products and collaborations from India.

Both the preceding conferences organised in Thiruvananthapuram in 2012 and in Kochi, 2014, have made the GAF into an internationally recognised event in Ayurveda.

The delegates’ participation shows consistent growth from 1,800 in 2012 to 4,000 in 2014. President of Mauritius Raj Keswur Purryag was the chief guest at the Kochi conference. “This time we are planning to rope in Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the inaugural function,” Dr. Kaloor said.

The GAF 2016 will have a host of activities including an international seminar on the theme, ‘Women’s Health,’ and exhibition of 500 stalls in which Ayurveda hospitals, drug manufacturing industry and various government and NGOs will showcase their services and products. Solidarity meets, live treatment clinics, workshops, an international business meet are other events, they said.

Thanks for the long post to justify an ancient form of medicine which is nothing more than a novelty item. There is a serious limit to these hit or miss treatments, they belong in the past and if any part of them is to be included than only after vigorous scientific testing.
Plastic surgery came out of Ayurveda.
Sushruta is the father of Plastic Surgery, his forehead flap technique is used in Rhinoplasty even today by Surgeons around the world.
There are many medicines and surgical procedures which were copied by other nations ,which are still used the same way.
Its a system existing since past 5000 years with detailed volumes of research being documented.

i wonder what that means.

vedic operating system and vedic microprocessor??
That means Sanskrit is the best language to study and build a AI(Artificial Intelligence). Which is being studied in USA by google and other tech companies.

Listen even the Chinese faced this issue but they have kept traditional Chinese medicine separate from their MBBS. This is because the theory of life as explained in older tradtional routes is different from modern medicine. The MBBS doctor is thought to think in terms of chemicals, molecular changes and exact points which would not be the way for traditional systems

These things have no base in Medicine and will end up with doctors who are not competent
We have hospitals called integrated hospitals of Chinese medicine and western medicine. And we also have Chinese medicine department in every western medicine hospitals. One of Shanghai's 3 major medical collages is called Shanghai University of Chinese Medicine.

Same is followed here. There are hospitals which provide only Ayurvedic treatments. Unfortunately, here Ayurvedic system is not provided in Western medicine hospitals. The doctors go through a complete residential program in government recognised colleges, which award 4 year bachelor degrees. If its a government accredited hospital, insurance will cover your expenses in a ayurvedic hospital.

And yes, they do know how to read the latest reports and are up to date with the latest in technology. People screaming here about Ayurved being religion driven is utter rubbish. Its a medical stream and the human body does not change with religion.

Problem also arises because lots of Indians see Ayurved as a spa therapy, because of the mushrooming of cheap massage parlours which sell 'Ayurvedic massages', which has nothing to do with Ayurved.

Quite different here.
Traditional medicine is a very important part of medical system here, supported by huge funding in researches.
These integrated hospitals are no worse than medical centres of western medicine in terms of infra and popularity.
One Chinese scientist specialising in Chinese medicine and drugs won Nobel Prize.

there are numerous such medical collages in my province alone
This one in my city has 5000+ beds at the afflicted medical centres..

Vaidya brahmins (or) Nayee brahmin (or) Dhanvantari brahmins were regarded as the highest Hindu caste along with Brahmins in India..

The term Dhanvantari Nayeebrahmin (or) Vaidya brahmin is used for traditional Purohit Aryans otherwise known as Brahmans, which means "noble". Vaidyanayeebrahmin who were part of the Vedic priesthood Hindu community in Andhrapradesh. They are known by different names in different parts of India . in other regions they are known as Purohithan / Purohit/vaidhyar/vadhya. In earlier times, these brahmins were known as Vadhyar or Vadhyayar or Purohit or Acharya or Pandit or Upadhyaya. They are traditionally Vaishnavas, They did yagna in early days in India. They were also experts in ayurvedic and traditional medicine, and treated patients according to the traditional ayurveda phisicions. Vaiththy- is the correct usage. The origin of Vaiththy is from Thamilnadu (Old Madras state).Vaiththys are migrated to Kerala as Vaidhyas( belonging to Purohitha- Bhramins of Madras) of Thamil solders.

Brahmin vadhyar/purohit/pandit caste name changed into Nayeebrahmin/isaivellar/maruthavar/maran/devadiga/ganaka/ezhava/Ezhavathy/Kavutheeya/komaram/Nai ect.. Vadhyar/pandit/purohit means one who know four vedas(rig, yajur, sama &atharva) Now vadhyar/purohit/pandit in India is known as Nayeebrahmin/isaivellar/maruthavar/maran/devadiga/ezhava/Ezhavathy/Kavutheeya/komaram/Nai etc.

In Atharv vrda one yagna/pooja starts with cutting hair and shaving .These experience lead them barber jobs.. The word Nayee stems from the Sanskrit root 'Nay'- which means to lead - stands for leadership.

The British indirectly dimmed the Siddha and Ayurvedic medical practices to be vanished away for their economical gains. The British set brought the hair cutting practices and people in general also started trimming their hairs in the name of fashion.

Wonderful post.
I know for a fact being a Surgeon in Western Medicine. What Bharat's Ayurvedic Contribution was and still is.
Yes,the British made Western Medicine supreme after copying many from our Ayurveda and Sushruta ,Charaka Samahita. I always respect Ayurveda,Siddha because i have seen cases of Breast cancers in terminal stages getting cured. So not questioning them.
But most Indian Doctors with Western Medicine degrees heckle and make fun of Siddha and Ayurveda, i don't.I tend to keep a Open Mind and appreciate Knowledge from wherever it comes.I seek Knowledge.
