Royal Ottoman family: Osmanoglu family in the UK

It is their own choice and we should respect it but how difficult was it to take Turkish classes? They just didn't care. I mean if they were regular family I would understand but this Osmanli family is direct heirs of the Ottoman dynasty which claimed to be also the descendants of Mohammed the prophet who ruled the entire muslim world for 6-7 centuries. If even they became secular why are the islamist trying to do in Turkey? So think their world view is more important than the world view of the descendants of Mohammed.
they(ottomans) didnt claim descendants of muhammed the prophet.this is wrong info

Nowadays everybody claims to be caliph but this family was caliph for 6-7 centuries which is big portion since Islam only exists since the year 570.

I think they did but it doesn't matter. Caliph means messenger of Allah and ruller of the "faithful".

Members of the Osman family not regarded well in Turkey after the revolution. The prime reason is the treason of the sultan.

The Ottomans gained the Caliphate in 1517. The Ottomans were neither descendants of Prophet Muhammad (saws).

Those remaining Ottomans pictured are clearly heavily mixed with Europeans. Most of their recent ancestry is probably European.

It does not seem that there are many of them left if we believe this line of succession below;

Line of succession to the former Ottoman throne - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Anyway it indeed seems embarrassing that they are not even able to speak Turkish. Bizarre in fact. Are they even Muslim?

Are there descendants of the Ottoman family who trace their ancestry to more distant Sultans that might live in Turkey or elsewhere? Any Turkish user that might answer this question? Because on that succession line there are only 26 males left and over half of them are old and the remaining half seem to live abroad. That's not many.

Lastly I don't think that it's a problem that one of them is a comedian. They are people like any other. It's a myth that people of royal/noble descent have a inherited class over them.

They don't speak Turkish. The funny thing is that some islamist in Turkey are saying it was a mistake for Turkey to kick out the royal family but they don't know the current state of the Ottoman family in the UK. For the record, five generations ago this family was caliph and leader of the muslim world.

they are lost and degenerated themselfes kan kani ceker..

some stupidos claim them in religios things but time is over..

for me its a sad story we lost our royal family..europeans didn't lost their.. they are now a relict from old days wich should remind us what can happen to us too.. turkey has always gives an shit about us turks in gurbet.. they even are jelous of us..

many turks lost their identity it reminds me of orhun runes.. many of those lost are even against us..but what is your problem with osmanli? I am proud of our ancient fathers like I am proud of Turkiye.. even if Türkiye does not deserve my love..

Heres the granddaughter of Abdülhamid II. speaking Turkish with heavy French accent.

Xenon54 maybe you can answer my question in post 34.

Is that Ottoman succession line really correct? I mean are there really only 26 male Ottoman descendants left? Half of them being above the age of 60 years? Are there really not more male descendants left?

I mean there have been numerous Sultans throughout the ages. Are there not other branches of the Ottoman family in for instance Turkey or the Arab world? Or have this simply not been recorded? I find it strange because in for instance the Arab world or Europe every single royal family or noble family or any person of importance (at least in the Arab world) carefully recorded their genealogy. So I am just curious.

I can even sense the French accent although I do not speak Turkish.:D

Don't you mean her great-grandfather? She seems quite young for a grandaughter considering that her supposed grandfather was born in 1842!

Where there not many other former Turkish ruling families in what is today Turkey? Do they still play a role in the society by any means? Probably not I guess.

Ottomans were good for a while but the last couple of centuries were bad. We should be proud of our ancestors and learn from their mistakes such as too many wars which resulted in less economic productivity and reliance on money from victories, wars resulted in debt, debt resulted in inflation, inflation lead to more corruption, and corruption leads to everything else that can go wrong. Obviously the governments monarchy system didn't work, I think 1 sultan was retarded or something, also they had to worry about keeping the family in power. Lack of industry was another and always hiring foreigners to do stuff. Those are the bad sides but obviously we can learn from their successes as well. So or so they lasted 600+ years the longest any turkic empire has lasted and they were probably the most powerful turkic empire when looking at all fields.

There are still Ottomans in europe today such as bosnians, muslim bulgarians, albanians, muslim macedonians, turkish cypriots etc. so that is a bonus for modern day Turkey. The Ottomans are an inspiration for anatolian Turks and Balkan muslims because it gives you confidence in yourself. You can say if they did it I can do it. This brings me to the point of neo ottomanism. Neo ottomanism in my view is the belief that Turkey can become something bigger than what it is today and actually have some influence on external events and have other countries especially neighboring countries under Turkeys influence. It doesn't mean that Turkish armies will be marching across the middle east and balkans again, press tv, assad, and others like to make it seem like that. Neo Ottomanism or just Ottomanism is a metaphor not something to be taken literally.

With regard to the Ottoman family, they have been living outside of Turkey for years so obviously they will end up in this situation, im not saying all of them. Also they have been mixing with europeans since the beginning of the empire.

Im quite sure the list is incorrect, i dont know where to find a accurate list or if it even exists, they are spread across Europe, i think many of the real descendants are ''lost'' or even dont know it themselves, not to mention ME.
Ottoman Empire was strictly ignored in Turkey for decades, espacially at the first years of declaration of the Republic, the after story of Ottoman Dynastly is blurred because of this.

Yes my bad, shes the grand-granddaughter.

Where there not many other former Turkish ruling families in what is today Turkey?
All high ranking members of the Dynasty were exiled in 1924, females were allowed to return in 1951 and males 1973, those members who didnt have a significant rank could stay and got Turkish citizenship like everyone else, i dont think there are any special records for them except the surname ''Osmanoğlu'' (not sure if all got that surname though) which translated means ''Son of Osman''

Here for more detailed infos:

So the Osmanoglu family is not only in the UK. The title of my thread is wrong. It seems Osmanoglu family is as well in France and Turkey. The family has contact with each other.

To say the truth. Most Turks don't even know the existence of the Ottoman family. Also the Turkish republic didn't care about them including AKP who claim to be neo-Ottomans or at least underline Turkish Ottoman past. I recently found them out through Naz Osmanoglu (the stand-up comedian). I'm interested in this topic and when I have time I will study this topic and answer your questions.

I don't have anything against the Ottomans, Osmanlis or Osman oglulari. I'm angry at the islamist who are more so-called neo-ottomanist but don't know about the royal family in the UK and elsewhere. They say stupid things like. We shouldn't have ousted the Ottoman family. The family is still there. Go and visit them. Anyway, if the Osman family is reading this. They should know Turks don't have anything against them. The Turkish government should be more in contact with them but until now Erdogan has completely ignored them. They invited costumed warriors but not the actual royal Osman family.
