India backs Palestine stand on statehood
RAMALLAH, Oct 13, 2015, DHNS:

President Pranab Mukherjee on Monday appreciated the position taken by Palestine on attaining its statehood while his Palestinian counterpart Mahmoud Abbas said he was taking all measures to contain incidents of violence.


Mukherjee told Abbas that the Palestinian position on the territorial jurisdiction and peace process “is right”.

His response came as Abbas informed that Palestine was trying to contain protests from its side though the issue was raised by "religious extremists" in Israel which was trying to restrict Palestinians inside Al Aqsa mosque.

“Mahmoud also said about their position that the territory should be based on the 1967 border” Anil Wadhwa, Secretary (East) in Ministry of External Affairs, said after Mukherjee's meeting with Abbas.

I thought Israel and India would see more eye to eye considering both are seen as oppressive to muslims and are occupying a majority muslim peoples against their will. Palestine and Kashmir. But looks like some Indians are indeed more interested in ties to arabs than with Israel. Strange thing.

While I choose not to respond to the ir- relevant underlined part , I'd like to bring out that the ties between Arabs & Indians has predated everything including Islam in the Indian subcontinent.
