NEW DELHI: Four days after a Pakistani boat self-imploded 365km off Porbandar coast, Pakistan Marine Security Agency abducted two fishing boats-Jhuelal and Jalaram- with 12 fishermen from International Maritime Boundary Line off Kutch in Arabian Sea on Saturday night.

According to Manish Lodhari, fishermen association leader from Porbandar, they received a message from fishermen about the abduction of the boats by Pakistan agency but are awaiting confirmation.


Fishermen are frequently arrested whenever they mistakenly enter the territorial waters of the two countries between Pakistan's southern province of Sindh and Gujarat. These fishermen often have to spend years behind the bars in the two countries.

Earlier, more than 150 Indian fishermen with their boats were released when Pakistan Premier Nawaz Sharif visited New Delhi in May to attend the oath-taking ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Meanwhile, security has been beefed up along Saurashtra coast in light of the terror boat incident. Patrolling has been intensified as well.

On Friday, a possible terror attack was averted when a suspicious fishing boat carrying explosives in the Arabian Sea was intercepted near the India-Pakistan maritime boundary, approximately 365 kilometres away from Porbander.

The four persons on board disregarded warning shots from the Coast Guard and tried to hide themselves in the lower deck of the vessel; thereafter they set the boat on fire, which resulted in an explosion.

Ultimately, the boat burnt and sank in the early hours of January 1, including all the people on board who could not be saved or recovered.

It will be just a matter of time before some Pakistani fishermen will make their way to the hands of the Indian authorities and the Indian Govt will reciprocate in their treatment. And after few months Indian fishermen will be caught again. This will go on and on.
