Syria strike target identified: Air force compound under exclusive Iranian control
After coalition strike, Israel fears new rules by Iran and Russia in Syria
The Israeli military targeted an advanced Iranian air-defense system at the T4 base in Syria last week and not just attack drone deployment, the Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday.

The report noted that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the strike after conferring with U.S. President Donald Trump, in hopes of preventing Iran from using the anti-aircraft battery against Israeli jets carrying out strikes in Syria.

Haaretz previously reported that the strike apparently targeted armaments aside from the drones, which could have reduced the Israel Air Force's freedom of operation in Syrian airspace.

Earlier this week, a senior Israeli military official admitted to New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman that Israel targeted T4, adding that "it was the first time we attacked live Iranian targets - both facilities and people."

According to the Wall Street Journal, Iran began bolstering air defenses following an escalation triggered by Iran sending an armed drone into Israeli airspace. Israel shot down the drone and retaliated with strikes in Syria, during which an Israeli F-16 war plane was downed.
The Israeli official told the New York Times that the incident "opened a new period," adding that "this is the first time we saw Iran do something against Israel - not by proxy."

The Wall Street Journal reported that Israel tracked an Iranian plane flying a Tor missile system from Tehran to T4 following the flare-up. The report notes that Israel moved quickly to destory Iran's new defense system before it could be set up, citing intelligence officials.

Seven Iranian Revolutionary Guards' Quds Force members, including drone unit commander Colonel Mehdi Dehgan, were killed in the strikes on T4.

Syrian... I doubt Iranians have deployed any air defence assets in Syria.......yet

.
Sanctions on Iran need to include a block on them sending people to the west to study this kind of technology and then take the knowledge back to Iran.

Most of the highly qualified Iranians stay in the west and refuse to go back to Iran...and its not about technology only but also components..which Iran completely lacks capability to manufacture...

I dont see what could be high tech about this air defense system if it failed to take down F16 and F15 jets which are from 1970s technology..the air-defense completely failed..

Didn't Trump ban Iranians from entering the US? Of course, they can still go to Europe to take technology. Here in Canada there are loads of Iranian students at universities studying engineering.

Well, their tuition are state paid by Iran.

The question is how long it take the tor to set up.
1min ? 30sec?10sec?
Seems the writer has no clue that the system designed to protect forces while moving.
The reaction time of the system is less than 7 sec while stationed and less than 10 sec while moving.

By the way the image in the article the one that mention Iranian tor system is just a stock photo the writer just found in Wikipedia.

Most of their nuclear scientists studied abroad. This is how Iran gets knowledge, by sending people to the west.

If Iran wanted to deploy any AD system to counter air strike ,while isreal doesn't enter Syrian airspace, by considering the 240 Km distance btw T4 and borders Tor by its max range 12km would be a poor choice.

Both can be equipped with powerful EW pods and/or accompanied by specialized EW aircraft among others.

For example: https://www.harris.com/solution/advanced-integrated-defensive-electronic-warfare-suite-aidews

USAF was able to operate outside the range of Syrian defenses and employed long-range cruise missiles to take out targets across Syria a while back.

tor is an internet proxy to bypass filter .that's how russians managed to sell it to iran.
