Renault to start assembling cars in Pakistan by 2018, says Board of Investment

. .
Renault just recently opened a plant in India. VW , BMW everyone has a plant in India. Until unless the demand becomes too great I dont see them opening a plant anytime soon. This is a comment for public consumption by the Minister.
YOU don't see..But they see...! Because you see with an INDIAN eye :)

Duster is product of Renault's subsidiary Dacia. In Europe it's sold under Dacia's logo.
Dacia is manufacturing good economical cars.

LOL, Have you owned volkswagen ? The models in India are prone to spare parts unavailability like ECU, Tx box etc. Only lower and mid range models are just making their presence felt due to huge customer base and presence of Skoda which shares parts and platform with VW. Low ground clearance along with fuel economy make them bad performer.

Secondly, Renault became hit in India not because of small car but entry segment SUV Duster.

More like a cross over than a real SUV.
yes it is actually compact crossover category

Keeping in view of road conditions, people in India prefer cars which have higher ground clearance. We call them Compact SUVs here. Ford Ecosport started the trend. If it ever comes to Pakistan, it will be a huge hit.

Price can be between PKR 1.4 - 2 million. Sure this can be primary car for middle income or second/third for the rich.

Massive 20 cm ground clearance, air conditioner build for south asian summers. This is my third car in India.

The bolded text is what one needs to read and understand. Unless there has been an official statement from Renault, this piece of news looks to be planted to show how Mr. Dar has been doing a good job. I would not read beyond that.

Well then Renault people are up for a surprise...

They think they can simply jump into a market where the majority of the market share is held by companies where majority stake is owned by the wealthiest and most powerful banking/investment banking families that have HISTORICAL ties with Pakistani government(s) leaders since founding of Pakistan. Yeah, good luck with that.

french cars might make a mark on the small car section f the market like Mehran, Alto etc.

But the real game changer would be if the German Volkswagen comes into PAK, they will eventually kill of Toyota and Honda sales

Even Hundai of South Korea can kill Honda and Toyota in Pakistan because there Santro (hatchback), Excel (Sedan in yellow cab scheme) and Shahzor (mini truck) were very much liked in Pakistan in there time

Renault and other French cars don't have a good reliability record. Unfortunately it is true.

I think Renault launched 1700cc diesel cal years ago and failed due to quality of car specially engine, also French hatchback was introduced yellow cab scheme and due to expensive maintenance cost and non reliability of vehicles compared to Asian ones.

Tata and Mahindra would do well in pakistan. They should allow imports of those cars. European and Japanese cars are built for gentle roads while the Subcontinent has broken ones

Carlos Ghosn, the Renault and Nissan CEO is a smart man. Unfortunately, French cars are rubbish - the only people who think French cars are good are the French people. I thought only their Indian products were bad till I ended up renting a Renault Clio in Europe - my word, what a piece of trash. Even their Aux-in for music had some weird two-pin red-white slot and I had to buy that from a store. Their Renault Logan was another major flop and one horrible looking car - again it was from the cheaper Dacia stable. The Indian manufactured Duster quickly became known as Ruster in parts of Europe because of rusting issues. Their only car which has been a game changer in India has been the Renault Kwid -

Duster did well initially but now is a laggard in the segment.

Instead of just assembling cars, Pakistan need to reachout to friendly countries like South Korea, China, Turkey, Iran and Malaysia and request for joint ventures and TOT in auto industry.
Pakistan need to build the entire car including all the parts in Pakistan.
