Remote sensing(spy) Radar Imaging Satellite(RISAT 1) launched successfully

Great going India. Well done ISRO !!

Cannot wait to see the maiden flight of GSLV - Mk III .

Same here...though any idea when the launch will be? All internet sources say by the end of this year. but no indication as such from ISRO :undecided:

Remember Risat folks... It will be answer to all the people who questioned about Indian investment in rocket science. We are going to reap economic, strategic benefits for 5 years to come...!!!

Is that yet another warning? Will you drop a megaton bomb if we get too cocky?

I would like to remind everyone of this prophetic quote by the visionary father of our space programme, Vikram Sarabhai:

"There are some who question the relevance of space activities in a developing nation. To us, there is no ambiguity of purpose. We do not have the fantasy of competing with the economically advanced nations in the exploration of the moon or the planets or manned space-flight."

"But we are convinced that if we are to play a meaningful role nationally, and in the community of nations, we must be second to none in the application of advanced technologies to the real problems of man and society."

This was in response to idiots at the time who were asking why India was attempting a space programme when many people didnt have food or toilets or whatever. Basically telling Indians to learn their place and not to do things beyond their reach, and leave it to "advanced" countries. Today we launch satellites for some of these "advanced" countries, we have one of the most cost effective space programmes in the world, and our accesibility and affordability of mass communication is second to none. All the hundreds of TV channels, all your cell phones and other gadgets work because of those tiny machines launched by India and orbiting the earth thousands of miles up in space - very few countries in the world can boast that, most countries have to rely on satellites launched by other countries. Not to mention the immense know-how it has spawned in many other areas. I hope we all pay tributes to this true Indian legend (Sarabhai).

This is nice tribute that sarabhai deserve on this i must say on this occasion

Just like your camera fires a flash of light, RISAT-1 fires microwaves, which the ground reflects back. A radar inside the satellite uses those reflections to make pictures so clear, that from six hundred kilometers above, the satellite can tell what car you're driving.

Because it doesn't need light, RISAT works both by day and night, in cloudy conditions and crucially, they see you even if you're hiding under trees, in forests. That makes them useful for the military.
RISAT-1, India's first high tech spy satellite - India News - IBNLive

Wow Wow Wow

Hmm. Now all terorists will also need some toilets, otherwise they will be filmed answering nature call... we will get poronographic vidieos.. lol

India already has another spy satellite RISAT-2 acquired from Israel which was launched in 2009.So if this tech was already given to India by Israel how come you call it indigenous?

The tech was not given, but device 'SAR' was sold to us. We integrated that with our satellite and launched it.

This satellite has our indigenously developed SAR.

Don't burn dude :flame:.just tell us.what will the pakistan response to this RISAT launch?? will they going to launch our indigenous satellite or not with in a week or month or year??

RISAT-1 uses an indigenously developed C-band SAR, operating in multi-polarisation, multi-resolution modes. The SAR sensor will enable RISAT-1 to collect data during both day and night and in all weather conditions. The declared degree of resolution is around 3 meters. However, some foreign analysts place the maximum degree of resolution at 0.8 - 1 meter; considering the potential of the technology employed.

Of-course, Israeli assistance proved critical. They are at the cutting edge of surveillance technology....far ahead of even the United States.

Asking a question is considered burning by you,i take it you are here to compare sizes not discuss any thing.our strategy is more of the defensive then offensive so i cant see us launching any spy satellite any time soon.

Woahhhha..................................... Party time. oh in Gujarat there is prohibition....
only bhajipav or Sizzlers only..............

Its sound really amusing when you talk about 'indigenous' systems. Don't think everyone same. You could simply ask the difference between RISAT-1 and RISAT-2. Here is your answer.

RISAT-2 and RISAT-1 both are radar imaging satellites but have different technologies. RISAT-2 has deploy-able paraboloid mesh antenna which RISAT-1 has planner C-band AESA with electronic agility and beam steering. And India bought TECSAR antenna for RISAT-2 which built by ISRO not any tech transfer. It is too sensitive. In return we launched their TECSAR satellite.
