The Western and Saudi media have refrained from terming the deadly attack in the Iranian city of Ahvaz a terrorist act despite the large number of civilian casualties in the incident.

At least 25 people were killed and 60 others injured in Ahvaz on Saturday, when terrorists opened fire on people from behind a viewing stand at a military parade held to mark the former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein's invasion of Iran in the 1980s.

The Saudi-backed al-Ahvaziya terror group claimed responsibility for the assault.

However, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) only used the word "attack" for the terrorist act.

Similarly, Reuters and others described the incident as an "attack" instead of a terror one whereas they have been quick to use "terrorist attack" for similar incidents that took place in Europe over the past few years.

Russia offers condolences

Russian President Vladimir Putin offered condolences to his Iranian counterpart, Hassan Rouhani, after the brutal attack.

He also expressed Moscow's readiness to boost joint efforts with Tehran in the fight against terrorism.

"This incident once again reminds us about the need to conduct an uncompromising war on terror in all its manifestations. I would like to confirm our readiness to further enhance cooperation with Iranian partners in countering this evil," the Kremlin quoted Putin as saying.

Iraq deplores attack

Iraqi Interior Minister Qasim al-Araji condemned the incident, saying it once again demonstrated the hostility of terrorists and arrogant elements towards the Muslim nation of Iran.

He further stressed that such actions could not undermine the authority of the Iranian nation.

Iran's social media blackout forces apps to submit or face a total ban
Amid protests, the Iranian government has prevented people from using the secure messaging app Telegram, and now it's facing a permanent ban

As Iran braced itself for the fourth day of protests – the largest the country has seen this decade – president Hassan Rouhani told his cabinet that Iranians can openly criticise their government. “We are a free nation and based on the Constitution and citizenship rights, people are completely free to express their criticism and even their protest,” he said, according to state-backed news channelPress TV.

On the same day, New Year’s Eve, Rouhani's government blocked access to Telegramthroughout the country. Since then Telegram has remained intermittently blocked in the country as the death toll from days of ongoing protests climbed to at least 21. Monthly, some 40 million Iranians, half of the population, use the encrypted messaging app to talk to each other away from the prying eyes of their government. Instagram and Signal were also blocked. As 2018 dawned, Iranians woke up to find themselves even more cut off from one another in a country that already ranks close to the very bottom of the pile when it comes to political rights and civil liberties.

Sanam Vakil an associate fellow at Chatham House. “It’s about preventing networking and preventing people from making meaningful connections,” she says. YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and the BBC Persian service are all banned in Iran, which has one of the strictest internet censorship policies of any country in the world.

Essentially, mixed reactions to the event in question. However, there is little sympathy for Iran worldwide due to actions of your leadership.

Well they could stop hosting them ...

when a news network broadcasted from London manages interview with the spokesman of this terrorists group and give him time to explain his filthy intention ... just imagine what would have happened if after London attacks Iran news network had interviewed the leader of terrorists giving him time to justify their terror ... or VOA has had interview with Rigi another well-known terrorist responsible of killing hundreds of Iranian ...

Double standards ain't new ...

Well they don’t have guns, most probably not trained most were conscripts, veterans or civilians.

You 45 years old, grow up you would most probably have a heart attack before shitting yourself, now return to your corner shop.
oh fuk off idiot.. I rather have a heart attack before cowering in sewage.

. .
Iranians took the same approach than the Russians when they were attacked by Turkey..Since Iran didn’t reply to Israeli attack, her foes think they are soft and fair game..Now even the Sauds, who were severely beaten by a barefooted Houthis, think Iran is the punching ball of the Middle East..
