Those are actually drop tanks which are always quite large in size to accommodate extra fuel. The weapons are usually smaller and well out of harms way.

Apart from other achievements made by the No.26 Sqn, with A-5 some of following are noticeable:

The Sqn won three top trophies of the PAF in the 1985, after converting to A-5. These included Professionals trophy, the flight safety trophy and the command armament trophy.

In 1989 the unit took part in the Inter-Squadron Armament Competition and the Officer Commanding, Wing Commander Wali Mughni, was declared 'Sher Afgan'.

26 squadron was then runner-up in the ACES for the year 1989.

Won the 'Sarfraz Rafiqui Flight Safety Trophy' for the year 1992.

Won the 'Chief of Air Staff Professionals Trophy' along with the 'Sarfraz Rafiqui Trophy' for the year 1994.

In 1996, the squadron won the 'Sarfraz Rafiqui Trophy' (Flight saftey trophy) as well as the ACES Trophy.

No. 26 Squadron previously was equipped with the A-5 Fantans, which have recently been withdrawn from service.

Don't know exact number of operational a/c...i think its 14. 22 a/c have been made so far, by end of next month 30 a/c will be flying in both 16 and 26 Sqn.

I was waiting for this news in end of Mar. But Congrts to All Pakistanis. its mean we have 2 sqn of JFT-17's. Long Live Pakistan. Waiting for inducation of FC.20

Why did the news arrive now? Most of us know on PDF, that a member of PDF living in Peshawar saw (and posted) pictures of JFT near Air base. Its around 2 weeks ago.

16 and 26 are old sqdns which have re-equipped with the JFT. previous mounts were Fantan A-5s
