After the entire furore created over their exclusion, veteran all-rounder Abdul Razzaq has become the first Pakistani player to fetch an Indian Premier League contract this year, signing up with Deccan Chargers .

Reliable sources close to the player told PTI that Razzaq, a former recruit of the rebel Indian Cricket League, and Chargers had reached an agreement under which the Pakistani would play as a 'substitute' for West Indian pacer Fidel Edwards .

"The contract has been finalised and it should be announced soon," a source said.

Razzaq's selection could put an end to the bad blood created between the two countries after Pakistani cricketers were not bid for during the IPL players' auction.

Flamboyant all-rounder Shahid Afridi had appeared for the Chargers in the first IPL season in 2008.

After being snubbed at the auction, Pakistani cricketers had claimed that they were deliberately humiliated by the IPL franchises, a charge that later snowballed into a political controversy.

Its only fair if they don't play as they chose not to play IPL2 even when it was in south africa.

He is not in the squad of Pakistani Internationals now a days. So I don't think he will consider for not going for such an option. I agree that money talks for honour can't feed you.

But still honour is respected and money isn't so he should have this in mind. Plus unlike India, Pakistani Govt. has said that they won't drag politics into cricket and if any player wants to play, they won't stop'em.

Its not confirmed yet, there have been some phone calls, I don't think there is an actual contract signed yet.

Unlike India? ... Is that so gentleman?

Have you read any comments from GoI in this regards where they have said that this controversy was their doing? .....On contrary, Chidambaram and Mr.Gill have given official statements blasting the IPL stakeholders for the treatment dished out to the Pak players. Did any of the Franchise owners claim direct pressure from GoI?

And coming to the "Unlike India" part, do you want to debate on what happened for non participation of Pak players in IPL 2 ... Or you want to debate on some of the official visits cancelled by Pakistan post this auction ?

Yes, the way the situation was handled by IPL authorities was not correct and dis-respectful. But to blame Indian Government for mixing politics and claiming GoP has never indulge in same is not correct.

From what we hear ... none of the franchisee have any slots (or money) available. Razzaq was considered as a replacement due to injury to one the contracted players.

On a lighter side, would have preferred Afridi (value for money).

Pakistan Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani on Thursday said he wants India and Pakistan to leave the Indian Premier League controversy behind and move towards building better relations between the neighbours.

Gilani, in an interview to CNN-IBN, said the misunderstandings can be addressed only through a composite dialogue. Gilani said, "I think composite dialogue is the only answer. We both are responsible nations, we can only move forward. We cannot afford a war, the only way forward is talks."

When asked whether Pakistan overreacted to a decision by private owners of IPL teams, Gilani said, " That's the mood of the parliament and the public and we have to follow their point of view as well, but I am confident with time, things would be alright." He added, "Cricket diplomacy is important, it always has been between India and Pakistan."

Gilani was however not forthcoming about Pakistan's hockey team taking part in world cup hockey being held in Delhi. He said, "We are considering that but can't comment at the moment."
