You can choose to believe in the convictions of your "main problem" or you can hear what I have to say.
I have long advocated Pakistanis to adopt secularism, freedom and democracy. In good conscience, I can't stop them from being subservient to radical ideologies without also showing them that they don't need to be subservient to US dictates either.
Its all about freedom and in todays Pakistan its America and the terrorists that are both taking away our freedoms. So this issue is not something dumb like lets piss off the Americans... Its about attaining Pakistan's freedom!
First, kudos for your effort to convince others who disagree with you and not just scream on them, which is quite typical around here.
Secondly, I understand what you are saying and why the US is perceived in Pakistan as an aggressive country, and I agree that their methods could be blunt and sometime offensive. Israel also sometime received this kind of attitude from Washington.
Believe it or not, I sincerely wish Pakistan to evolve and find peace and security. However, the only way for forward for Pakistan is to take responsibility for its fate, and stop blaming others in its misfortune.
The US does mistakes and sometimes act like an elephant in a porcelain store, but it is fighting right now to protect itself and its allies from another 9/11 - which was much worse for them than Pearl Harbour in 1942. They must fight it in Pakistan and Afghanistan because these countries became the epic centre of global terrorism. If the Americans do not fight it in South Asia, they would soon fight it in their own country. The US does not want to rule Pakistan, it is only wants to stop worry about Pakistan because of its terrorism and nuclear weapons, and for being so unstable. They pretty much ignored you until 1979, and tried to ignore you again between the end of the Afghan war and 9/11. If there is no global terrorism in Pakistan, then the US would get of Pakistan's back.
I believe you that you sincerely believe that the Davis case is a test for Pakistan's sovereignty. However, in my opinion it is just a projection of the hatred in Pakistan towards the US which is mostly irrational. The US grant massive assistance to Pakistan, and try to fight against Taliban and Al Qaeda in Afghanistan and Pakistan that are threatening the stability of both country. Most of the time they are killing Pakistanis and Afghanis. The US practically let Pakistan to develop its nuclear capabilities almost without any interruptions (just look what is going on with Iran and in the past with North Korea...).
So, I would expect Pakistanis to take this case in proportion, Davis should be sentenced and be punished if he is guilty. However, this circus of public opinion is way out of proportion regarding the case, to the context of the violent situation in Pakistan, and to the sort of attitude you should show towards the superpower which support Pakistan in many ways.
I know this criticism is hard to hear from someone who is far from events (like I do not like to hear criticism against Israel). However, sometime keeping a distance give one proportions about the situation. You can choose to listen or to ignore it.
