RAS receive order from Pakistan Navy (Aircraft ATR 72 conversion to maritime patrol/ASW)

Lets see. IAF will be operating 50-60 planes in the next few years.

If we can make it happen i say it would be a good choice. The main reason being the fact that there are lots of variants of this same aircraft and may be we can look at the gun ship ones along with the MPA/ASW aircraft. Also can use for AWACS and light transport. Will be a good choice to go with but the Indian deal may be a problem. Plus what about subsystems? I mean if we plan to integrate Chinese and/or Turkish radars and ASW equipment then why not go for a Chinese platform as well? What are the added benefits of C295 (considering the IAF deal as well)
No reason why the PN wouldn't go for the Y-8 or Y-9 - that platform is already in use in that environment, so the Navy will have an idea on how it fares by the sea. Whether it is ATR-72, C-295 or Y-8, they're all affordable platforms with plenty of customization and armament options, there's no set configuration PN has to follow (as opposed to P-8 or Swordfish). They're also widely used (especially ATR-72 and C-295), which is a huge plus against the Bombardier-based Swordfish or an attempt at using a new platform (e.g. An-172 or KC-390).

Yes that is what i was saying. It is most probable that the ASW equipment on board will be Chinese or may be Turkish so in case of Chinese atleast Y8 Y9 will make more sense and we can also opt for larger numbers for all those gun-ship, AWACS, MPA, ASW warfare, and transport role. One platform for all services and different roles. Will considerably reduce the maintenance and logistics costs. Y9 gives us a C130J class plane!! That is pretty big!

Indeed, but I'd prefer the PN to just stick with what it actually has - i.e. ATR-72. Just stick to the platform and build a fleet over the medium and long-term. If anything, they ought to consider strengthening the ATR-72's hardpoints such that it could use AShM.

WEll that will be more sensible then C295 i think. Building a fleet for Patrol and reconnaissance as well as modifying some for ASW/AShW duties eventually phasing out the P3C (when it comes to that). Turkish systems may interest PN for these planes. On the other hand, we should probably opt for Y9 and in a decent number for transport (when we have to phase out C130 (not anytime soon)) and also for AWACS and gun-ship (yeah as you can see i am really interested in AC130 style gun ship :P, it suites our setup and meet our needs against those TTP goon in any future offensive)

@Penguin what is your guess for partner german company?

If its not a company then it might be DLR (institute of aerodynamics and flow technology)????

PN still have preference for western equipment I have gone for the Chines ones more affordable and as good as any western systems.

So it mean that PN atr are pure maritime survillance platform with possible of hunting subs with 2 torpedoes.
