The U.S. administration, which announced an eye-wash Raqqa operation with the YPG terror group, sent arms to the group in al-Hasakah province while Turkey considers the airdrop a betrayal to Ankara.
Helicopters and aircrafts belonging to U.S. military has dropped 12-14.5 mm anti-aircraft guns, hand bombs, explosives and heavy and light weapons to the terrorist organization.
Both Turkey and opposition groups fighting Daesh terrorism and Assad regime strongly opposed the weapon supply.
The airdropping comes hours after the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), a Syrian armed group dominated by the Peoples' Protection Units (YPG) terrorist group, announced that they launched a Raqqa operation against Daesh.
'US prompted YPG to announce Raqqa op to support Clinton'
Former leader of Raqqa military council and current opposition commander Colonel Imededdin Said told Yeni Şafak that the announcement of the operation was only a show that aimed to drive attention away from the real issue.
“This is actually a preparation for al-Bab [a Daesh stronghold in northern Syria which Turkey-backed opposition fighters marching toward]."
PKK/PYD begins attacks against Daesh in Raqqa
The Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK)-affiliated Democratic Union Party (PYD) terrorist organization declared that it launched an attack on the Daesh-held Syrian province of Raqqa. The PKK/PYD terrorists organized under the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDG) alliance is aiming to purge Raqqa of Daesh terrorists. The group also urged residents of the city in the Syrian town of Ain Issa, about 60 kilometers northwest of Raqqa, to leave and avoid areas where the terrorists were present to avoid harm.PKK's chaos plan to be foiled by Turkey The SDF named the operation "Euphrates Anger," in reference to Operation Euphrates Shield, which was launched with the support of the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) to clear the terrorists in northern Syria. Ankara officials had been pushing Washington officials to avoid cooperation with the terrorists in the operation to clear Syria and Iraq from the terrorists. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had previously said, "Turkey would do what is necessary with its coalition partners in Syria's Raqqa, but would work with U.S. forces, not terrorists." The Euphrates Shield and Mosul operations in Syria and Iraq, respectively, are being conducted simultaneously to sweep the terrorists from both countries.
According to intelligence sources, YPG planned to carry the weapons to al-Bab via Manbij, as the terror group attempted to capture the strategic city prior to the FSA forces arrival.
Turkey repeatedly warned YPG not to interfere in the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK)-supported operation in northern Syria and urged them to withdraw their terror elements from the city of Manbij.
“U.S. and YPG clearly know that they cannot capture the city with the current conditions. But the U.S. administration made YPG announce this funny announcement due to increase American voters' support to Democrat Party's presidential nominee Hillary Clinton," he added.
The former commander of the Raqqa military council said they would announce a YPG victory after capturing some villages on the outskirt of Raqqa and then declare the end of the operation.
“This is completely a theater for the U.S. election," Colonel Said said.
He said that the Assad regime and its allies, Russia and Iraq, had also made preparation for capturing Raqqa.
Turkey, US agree on who should seize Raqqah: Pentagon
Turkey and the U.S. agreed to work on a plan to seize and hold the Syrian city of Raqqah, the so-called capital of the Daesh terrorist group, the Pentagon reported Monday. The Pentagon has yet to release details but the Defense Department News quoted Gen. Joseph Dunford as saying, “The coalition and Turkey will work together on the long-term plan for seizing, holding and governing Raqqah”. The Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman made the comment Sunday following a meeting in Ankara with Turkish Chief of General Staff Gen. Hulusi Akar. The generals met to coordinate operational planning in different areas, including Raqqah, Mosul, Iraq, and others, according to the Pentagon.“Obviously as a close ally, we really just want to make sure that we're completely tight as we work through some challenging issues,” Dunford said.Over the weekend, the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) launched an operation to isolate the city, but the group has been a concern for Turkey because the terrorist PKK/PYD and its military wing, the YPG, lead it, although the U.S. claims that it is multiethnic.U.S. military leadership has said the SDF would play a role in isolating the city rather than hold it.“We always knew the SDF wasn't the solution for holding and governing Raqqah,” Dunford said. “What we are working on right now is to find the right mix of forces for the operation.”Turkey has proposed having local Arabs enter and hold the city.Dunford also acknowledged that “a predominantly Arab and Sunni Arab force” is needed for the operation.“And there are forces like that. There is the moderate Syrian opposition, the vetted Syrian forces and the Free Syrian Army forces, and there is some initial outreach to forces in Raqqah proper,” he added.
Assad has recently appointed Mujahid Musa as the new governor of al-Hasakah, who is a member of the strongest tribe in the region. Within one week of Musa's appointment, a group of more than 300 Arab militants from PYD left the terror group.
Isa said the new development indicated that a clash between regime and PYD/YPG terrorists was inevitable.
Raqqa residents are forced to choose between Assad's and YPG's brutality
“But the most important thing is," he added, “The people of Raqqa, the mostly Arab populated city, are being forced to select one of these two options; Assad's brutality or YPG's genocide."
Both U.S. and Russia know that any project without Turkey would fail in the city, according to the opposition commander.
The opposition figure said the people of Raqqa would not cooperate with killers and not give their towns and villages to YPG /PYD.
He stated that YPG's insisting on Raqqa would bring its own destruction.
Up to 40,000 troops ready to isolate Syria's Raqqah
The U.S.-led anti-Daesh coalition said as much as 40,000 fighters in northern Syria are ready to isolate Raqqah.Coalition spokesman Air Force Col. John Dorrian told reporters via video conference that there are now “adequate forces" for the job and a ballpark of 30,000 to 40,000 U.S.-backed forces are ready to envelope the city held by Daesh since 2014.The Pentagon plans to isolate the Raqqah using Syrian Democratic Forces, an umbrella group led by PKK/PYD and its military wing, the YPG. Due Turkey's objection to PKK affiliates' role in retaking the predominantly Arab populated self-declared Daesh capital, Ankara and Washington are still working on plans seize Raqqah.According to Dorrian, there will be ongoing dialogue between the U.S. and its coalition partners as well as allies to decide who would actually would go in and hold the city while the isolation operation is completed.Responding to an Anadolu Agency question about who would cut off Daesh supply routes to Raqqah in the south as Syrian Democratic Forces press the militant group from the north, Dorrian said: “there are significant numbers of Arab forces in that area as well" and the coalition is intending to train as many as possible.Dorrian also addressed reports about an audio recording allegedly by Daesh leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and its implication but he said he could not confirm its authenticity.“It is quite clearly an effort on the part of Daesh to communicate to their fighters," Dorrian said characterizing it as an evidence for the severity in the control and command ability of Daesh leadership. In the recording, Baghdadi allegedly addresses Daesh members in the city and asks fighters to hold their grounds and not leave. He also calls on members not to fight each other.
“There are 50 kilometers between Raqqa and Ain Issa, from where YPG planned to launch the operation. All of these open areas can be the graveyard of thousands of YPG terrorists. They also know this. The terror group lost 1,650 elements in Manbij and this figure can be increased to 7-8 thousand before reaching Raqqa. This could be an end of YPG itself," he noted.
According to Colonel Imededdin Said, the terror group, which had conducted ethnic cleansing everywhere it captured, would launch an ethnic cleansing operation in Raqqa too.
“Arabs living in Jazeera areas are aware of this danger. The largest tribes in the area, including Baggara, Shammar and Tai, will not allow any solution without Turkey. In our views, YPG / PYD is more dangerous than the Devil."
The Syrian opposition colonel said that Turkey should negotiate with tribes and launch a ground operation east of Euphrates River similar to the Operation Euphrates Shield.
“A huge land force from the local people can emerge with the cooperation with the tribes. Syrians living under the Daesh, YPG and Assad occupation are waiting for Turkish military."
30,000 fighters standby to join Turkish operation in Syria: opposition leader
One of the Syrian opposition groups fighting regime forces said that 30,000 forces are standing by to join Turkey-led operation to liberate Syrian cites of Tal Abyad, Manbij and Raqqa from terrorist organization. Abu Khattab, leader of Al Safwan Islamic Brigade, said that he can prepare 30,000 fighters –even much more than this - to join the Turkey-backed operation Euphrates Shield. Operation Euphrates Shield (OES), a Turkish military-backed Free Syrian Army's (FSA) counter terrorism campaign in northern Syria, was launched on Aug. 24 to clear border cities from Daesh and PYD terror groups. Since then, an area around 1,300 square kilometers has already been cleared and security has been established in the region. Thousands of Syrians returned to their homes from Turkey.OES troops only 12 km away from Al Bab OES reached the outskirts of Aleppo and are only 12 kilometers from al-Bab, a Daesh stronghold in northern Syria. Turkish President Erdoğan said a week ago that the OES will advance toward the south and would clear areas from terrorists totaling 5,000 sq km. Khattab said that Aug. 24 was the beginning of new process in Syria along with the FSA operation with Turkish military. 'U.S. military makes the situation difficult' “Al-Bab will be freed within a couple of days," Khattab, the leader of Al Safwan Islamic Brigade said, noting that the next target of the OES should be Tal Abyad, Mabij and Raqqa. “The new wave of OES, under the leadership of Turkey, can free these cities from Daesh and YPG terrorists within three months," Khattab said. He added that this figure can be increased up to 70,000 if Turkey negotiates with tribe leaders in Raqqa, Al Hasakah and Deyr az-Zor. Turkish military hits 80 Daesh targets in Syria “Actually, 30,000 fighters are enough to free the region from Daesh and YPG, but the role of the U.S. military makes the situation difficult," he added. Khattab said the U.S. support to YPG was leading the condition in Syria into a more chaotic situation. “U.S. is no longer a reliable partner," according to the opposition leader. Opposition groups' clashes with YPG is and unavoidable thing, he said. “This war is not only against Daesh and YPG. After liberating areas from Daesh and YPG, the opposition forces will clear other areas from Assad and his ally Shia terrorists."He underlined that their relations with Turkey following the OES had acquired a dimension beyond sharing a common fate. “In fact, we only believe in Turkey's friendship," Khattab added. US suspends providing weapons to YPG
“Turkey should meet and make deals with the tribes as soon as possible. This initiative can form the largest ground force in the region. This force can launch an operation beginning from Tal Abyad. This is the most effective way to fight Daesh and YPG in successful way," he added.
Euphrates Shield is the most successful operation against the terrorist group ever, as the Turkish military-supported opposition fighters have captured approximately an area of 1,300 square kilometers from Daesh within two months.
Helicopters and aircrafts belonging to U.S. military has dropped 12-14.5 mm anti-aircraft guns, hand bombs, explosives and heavy and light weapons to the terrorist organization.
