NEW DELHI: Union home minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday approved the raising of two auxiliary battalions, including one each of BSF and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), with surrendered militants from Manipur and Assam. The ex-militants, to be taken in as general duty constables and head constables, will not be armed and their job description will be limited to physical training exercises, studies to clear Class X exam and skill development.

Given that most of the surrendered militants fall short of eligibility criteria for recruitment in the central forces, the Union home ministry has relaxed the norms, dispensing with the written test and allowing those who have studied till Class VIII and in their early thirties to be recruited into the auxiliary battalions. The required physical fitness levels will, however, be same as those for regular recruits, and they will have to clear the test of running 5km within 24 minutes.

The surrendered militants will serve in the auxiliary battalions for five years and may then be absorbed in regular battalions spread across the country, based on their success in passing Class X and physical fitness. Those who do not make the cut will be allowed to go and use the skills acquired to earn a livelihood.

The auxiliary battalions will have 700 general duty posts each. Importantly, none of the surrendered militants accommodated in the auxiliary battalions will be given weapons or weapons training. They will be paid a monthly honorarium of Rs 11,000-14,500, besides additional ration money and washing allowance, etc. They will, however, not be required to work like general recruits.

"The auxiliary battalions were approved earlier as a regular battalion. However, since there was a problem of accommodating the surrendered militants and their rehabilitation was a big issue, the minister has cleared the conversion of two regular battalions as auxiliary battalions. It will go to Cabinet for final approval soon," a senior home ministry official told TOI.

Now, this is called "out of box " thinking.:tup:

Once they see the benefits, More-n-more militants might follow soon. Very good job Mr. Singh.

Now this is what we call....A GOOD SHEPHERD.............. great news.

Bad move! Militants can't be trusted. Keep them away from armed forces, rather give them civil job.

I Hope this statement will address your concern up to some extent.

What is out of the box? They were already absorbed as regular battalions with some concerns. Now, this is just implementing some suggestions already made in that regard.

All those bravado of Bhaktas! Huh...

I agree with you in this case.....
Surrendered militants cannot be trusted completely........even if they're 'tested' for 'sufficient' amount of time, one cannot be completely sure..............they still might have a soft-spot for their 'brethren' because one cannot just eradicate a portion of their life from their memory........
They have just surrendered, may be because they grew tired of the violent life they were leading........but that doesn't mean they are ready to take up arms against their erstwhile 'brothers in arms'..............
Therefore, IMHO, they must be rehabilitated in non-defence sectors.....

Out of his "box" thinking for sure!
How about a similar scheme for Naxalites?
Now guys (and maybe girls too) will line up to become Militants and then surrender to get a stipend for doing very little...... ;)

The other option is to brutally gun them down and keep gunning with so much barbarity that they terrorists start fearing a cold blooded torturous murder.

But the worshippers of democracy and secoolarism will not let that happen and cry their hearts out for the terrorists, because these terrorists happen to be somhow emotionally related to these self-appointed intellectual blokes.

So?

This is the only way left.

Most terrorists who surrender are ostracized by the radical sections of the society (and also the far left intellectuals). So they don't have much of a choice but toe the line of the State, faithfully like the Hilfswillige.

There is a chance of sabotage, but not much greater than that of non militants. This is especially true since they are not going to be trained in weapons. It would have been better to build contructions or labor battalions - I hope auxilliary means that though.

That logic just does not make any sense to me; does it to you?

So what do you suggest?

Let MHA clamp down on these news traders (not news media but traders), arrest and interrogate the paid journalists using third degree and suppress media before launching a full blown war against Maoists or other terror groups?

I honestly would love to see that happening than seeing innocent CRPF jawans getting blown to bits daily. The lives of CRPF jawans are far more precious than a few selfish, honorless, filthy news traders who deserve third degree torture for their anti-national activities covertly using soft power to portray terrorists as some sort of heroes or 'freedom fighters' over these years.

But that is not possible.

However, using a touch of softness, those who deviated from the path can be used as a weapon against those very people who spoke against our country from within.

These ex-terrorists know their former masters like no other. They can be of great help to combat forces.

You are taking an animal and making him into an human-being. is that not good enough for you?
You will be able to take guns, violence, rape, murder off the street, is that not good enough for u?
Bro, you always have schemers, people will always find ways to take advantage of a situation, but the good exceeds far more than the bad. My two cents.;)
