More information has come out. In the car apart from APS and the GM there were also another police officer... who is member of GRP Enamul Haque. All of them were released and no police case has been filed against them. But charge of black mailing has been brought against the driver. But curiously most of the media ignored the information of the detention of the police officer also in the case. Details are as below:

নাটকীয় আটক : বর্ডার গার্ড অব বাংলাদেশ (বিজিব&#2495 ও বাংলাদেশ রেলওয়ে সূত্রে জানা গেছে, গত সোমবার দিবাগত রাত দেড়টার দিকে একটি প্রাইভেটকারযোগে রেলমন্ত্রীর এপিএস ওমর ফারুক তালুকদার, রেলওয়ের পূর্বাঞ্চলের মহাব্যবস্থাপকইউসুফ আলী মৃধা ও জিআরপি পুলিশের সদস্য এনামুল হক পিলখানা এলাকায় ৭০ লাখ টাকাসহ ধরা পড়েন। ওই সময় রেল ভবন থেকে প্রাইভেটকার নিয়ে তাঁরা ধানমণ্ডির দিকে যাচ্ছিলেন। কিন্তু পিলখানা এলাকায় যাওয়ার আগেই গাড়িচালক মো. আজম এপিএস ও অন্যদের কাছে এক লাখ টাকা দাবি করেন। তিনি টাকার বস্তা থেকে তাঁকে কিছু টাকা দেওয়ার প্রস্তাব করলে ওমর ফারুক গাড়িচালককে বলেন, 'তোকে তো বেতন দেওয়া হয়। আবার টাকা চাস কেন?' ১৫-২০ মিনিটের বাগ্বিতণ্ডার একপর্যায়ে গাড়িচালক পিলখানার তিন নম্বর গেটের সামনে আচমকা গাড়ি ঘুরিয়ে ফেলেন এবং চিৎকার দিতে থাকেন। ওই সময় বিজিবির সদস্যরা এগিয়ে এলে গাড়িচালক তাঁদের জানান, গাড়ির ভেতরে টাকা আছে। এরপর বিজিবি সদস্যরা বস্তাভরা টাকাসহ তাঁদের সবাইকে আটক করেন। জানা গেছে, বিজিবি সদস্যদের হাতে আটক থাকার পর গতকাল মঙ্গলবার দুপুর দেড়টার দিকে ওমর ফারুক ও অন্যদের ছেড়ে দেওয়া হয়েছে। কিন্তু তাঁদের পুলিশে সোপর্দ করা হয়নি।

সংবাদ সম্মেলনের শেষ দিকে সাংবাদিকরা এপিএসের আটক-কাহিনী সম্পর্কে জানতে চাইলে সুরঞ্জিত সেনগুপ্ত বলেন, এপিএস কোথায় কী করে না করে, সব জানার দায়িত্ব তাঁর নয়।

Railway Minister Suranjit Sengupta received heavy flak from various quarters over the seizure of Tk 70 lakh from his assistant personal secretary's car Monday night and his handling of the matter afterwards.

The parliamentary body on railway ministry and officials of railway and other ministries alleged that Suranjit took the matter very lightly. They questioned how neutral the two probe committees, formed by the minister, would be when an officer of the same ministry is to investigate his subordinates.

Even the Anti-Corruption Commission joined the crowd yesterday. The graft watchdog said it would launch a probe into the minister's alleged involvement in the incident, reports Channel i, a private TV channel.

Apparently embarrassed, the government and the ruling party leaders are now waiting for the prime minister to return from Turkey and tell them what to do about the scandal.

Meanwhile, the opposition BNP demanded the minister's resignation while the parliamentary body launched a probe into the ministry's handling of tenders over the last three years.

However, the money found in the car is believed to be bribes from railway job seekers.

With Suranjit's assistant personal secretary Omar Faruq Talukder, Railway's General Manager (East) Yusuf Ali Mridha and Divisional Commandant Enamul Huq on board, driver Ali Azam of Faruq's car drove the vehicle into the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) headquarters in the capital around 11:30pm Monday and stopped.

When guards at the gate rushed towards the vehicle as it had entered the BGB headquarters without authorisation, the driver told them there was bribe money stashed in the car. The guards discovered Tk 70 lakh in the car and they detained the four.

The BGB personnel wanted to hand them over to police but police refused to receive them, saying there was no case filed against them. Faruq, Yusuf and Enamul were eventually released but the driver is said to be still in BGB custody.

The Daily Star failed to reach the driver for comments despite repeated attempts on his two mobile phones.

Meanwhile, BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir during a demonstration in the capital against price hike of essentials called for Suranjit's resignation. He said the minister should shoulder the responsibilities of what has happened, reported UNB.

Suranjit, clearly on the back foot, told the press at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban yesterday that he had asked Faruq and Yusuf not to come to work until further notice.

“This was unwarranted,” Suranjit said, adding, “In a country like ours, this kind of incidents has happened before. This incident has created problems for me. I will face it.”

When the press asked if he had suspended them, he was rather vague and said, “You can think like that if you want.”

However, after the seizure of the money the minister had told a press briefing at Rail Bhaban that Faruq and Yusuf would continue work since they had not been proved guilty of any wrongdoing. He even denied that Enamul was in the car.

Late last night, Suranjit's personal secretary sent a letter to the secretary of the ministry informing him of Faruq's suspension from yesterday morning.

The Daily Star could not reach Suranjit for comments.

Sources in the railway said Rail Sramik League, ministers, lawmakers, ruling party leaders and a section of corrupt railway officials were taking bribes from job seekers. The railway ministry recently started recruitment of 7,500 people.

A senior railway official on condition of anonymity said, “Tk 2 lakh to 5 lakh is being taken from each candidate.”

During the meeting of the parliamentary body on the railway ministry at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban yesterday, a number of lawmakers came down heavily on the minister over the issue. They even questioned how an APS has a lawmaker's sticker on his personal car.

The parliamentary body yesterday formed a five-member sub-committee headed by lawmaker Shah Alam to probe alleged irregularities in awarding contracts under the ministry's various projects in the last three years.

BNP MP Rehana Akhter Ranu, a member of the parliamentary body, demanded that the government form a judicial probe committee to investigate the source and destination of the money found. She said Suranjit must resign for the sake of impartial investigation.

Rehana said, “We believe the minister's APS and a general manager of railway were taking the money to him [Suranjit], which was bribe in exchange for jobs in the ministry.”

Other members, including a ruling party lawmaker, of the standing committee asked the minister about the alleged corruption in recruiting employees in the ministry.

Suranjit, also a member of the parliamentary body, said such incident was unexpected and he would place the enquiry reports of the two probe committees before the parliamentary body and take actions as per the parliamentary committee's directives.

Suranjit refused Rehana's demand for a judicial probe.

Talking to The Daily Star, several railway officials and employees said the three--Faruk, Mirdha and Enamul--should have been suspended immediately and an independent investigation body should have been formed.

Joint secretary (administration) of the railway ministry Shashi Bhushan Singha was assigned to investigate the involvement of Mirdha while minister's Personal Secretary Akhtaruzzaman was probing the involvement of Faruq.

“How can the minister's PS be assigned to investigate such an incident since the two work together?” an official told The Daily Star at Railway Bhaban yesterday. The officer said an official of the ministry could not probe irregularities of another official of the same ministry.

Yet another official suspected that proper investigation would not be possible by the probe committees. “Officials of other ministries could have easily been engaged in the probe,” the official said, requesting anonymity.

Another official said, “There are allegations that many of us are chor [thieves]. This is the proof of that.”

The official said if Railway's General Manager (East) Yusuf Ali Mridha was properly quizzed, everything would be revealed since he knows everything.

Meanwhile, the Railway Bhaban yesterday looked desert since morning as almost no senior officials came to work.

ACC TO PROBE
Anti-Corruption Commission Chairman Ghulam Rahman yesterday said the commission would investigate the allegation of taking bribe by Suranjit.

“There used to be no investigation into any allegation against ministers in the past, but now the graft watchdog will probe,” he said, addressing the concluding ceremony of a training programme for newly-appointed 28 ACC assistant directors, reports UNB.

The ACC chairman also said the commission would also conduct an investigation into the allegations of corruption in the Padma bridge project and against Destiny-2000 Ltd.

GOVT, AL EMBARRASSED
The government and the ruling Awami League were embarrassed by the incident, The Daily Star found out after talking to several leaders and ministers.

However, none agreed to go on the record.

“It is really embarrassing for the government and the party at this time [at the fag end of the government's tenure],” said a minister requesting not to be named. “It is a very sensitive matter…”

The minister said they would discuss the matter with the prime minister upon her return from Turkey on Saturday.

Highly placed government sources said that before her departure for Turkey, the prime minister had asked Suranjit to suspend his APS immediately.

Awami League Deputy Office Secretary Mrinal Kanti Das, however, said there might be a conspiracy behind the incident. It could have been staged to disgrace the government.

Two top railway officials, Railway Minister Suranjit Sengupta's assistant personal secretary (APS) and his driver along with Tk 70 lakh were going to the minister's Jigatola residence on Monday night, intelligence sources told The Daily Star yesterday.

The minister, however, refuted the claim.

Railway's Dhaka division Security Commandant Enamul Huq, one of the four persons who were detained by the Border Guard Bangladesh personnel at Pilkhana with the money, claimed yesterday he did not know that railway General Manager (East) Yusuf Ali Mridha and railway minister's APS Omar Faruq Talukder were going to Suranjit's house with the money.

"I came to know about the money when microbus driver Ali Azam drove into the Pilkhana headquarters around 11:30pm, screaming that there was illegal money in the vehicle," he told The Daily Star at his office yesterday.

Sources say the driver might have created the scene as he was refused Tk 5 lakh as a share of the amount.

After the scandal came to light on Tuesday, Suranjit told reporters he was unaware of the movement of the four, saying he was not supposed to know their whereabouts after office hours.

The Daily Star tried to talk to the four persons, but could reach only Enamul Huq at his Kamalapur Railway Station office.

Yusuf Ali Mridha was neither found at his Railway Officers' Staff Quarters residence nor did he receive calls despite repeated attempts.

The cell phones of the minister's APS and his driver were found switched off.

Maj Gen Anwar Hossain, BGB director general, on Tuesday told The Daily Star that his force had freed all the four detainees.

But Enamul yesterday said the BGB men still had Ali Azam, the driver, in their custody.

"As the driver was not released, another person called by the minister's APS drove us out of the border guard headquarters," he said.

This paper has made repeated attempts to contact a number of BGB officials to verify Enamul's statement but none of the border officials took any call.

Reports suggest that Suranjit had asked the BGB authorities over the phone to release the four detainees.

Asked, the minister told journalists after a meeting at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban yesterday that the newsmen were making it up.

ENAMUL HUQ'S VERSION:
According to Enamul, he got involved in the incident as Yusuf Ali Mridha asked him to go to the minister's house that night.

"First, we reached a house at Dhanmondi-3 by the car of the general manager [Yusuf Ali]. I waited in the car as the GM entered the house. About an hour later, the GM and the APS [Omar Faruq] came down and asked me to leave the car and get into the microbus of the APS," said Enamul.

"We arrived near Pilkhana around 11:30pm, and the driver drove the vehicle into the BGB headquarters through gate No 4."

"At one stage, the driver asked the BGB men to detain the GM and the APS, as he screamed there was illegal money in the vehicle," Enamul said.

"At this, Omar Faruq told the driver and the BGB men that there was no illegal money and that it was his money. He [Faruq] said his relatives gave him the money for business and for his sister's marriage," Enamul added.

Following arguments for around 40 minutes, some BGB personnel approached the microbus and took the keys.

"The BGB men kept us in a room in Pilkhana [on Monday night] and on Tuesday they freed three of us after verifying our identities but kept the driver detained," he said.

Replying to a query, Enamul said none intercepted them to know their identities when the driver drove the microbus into Pilkhana.

It may be mentioned that the BGB headquarters is heavily guarded and it is quite impossible for outsiders to enter it without the BGB members checking their identities.

Dhaka, Apr 12 (UNB) - Railways Minister Suranjit Sengupta on Thursday claimed that it was a well-orchestrated plan to politically humiliate him by trying to implicate him in the reported scandal of his APS’ money in the car.

“I feel that it's an well-orchestrated design to malign me politically and thwart the current pace of progress in the railway sector that had been in dilapidated condition over the decades,” he told UNB at his ministry this afternoon.

On Monday night, BGB members detained Omar Faruque Talukder, Railway (East) GM Yusuf Ali Mridha and others after a car carrying them entered the BGB Headquarters at Peelkhana in the city.

Faruque and Yusuf were allegedly carrying illegal money of Tk 70 lakh in the Faruque’s car.

APS Faruque has been suspended and GM Yusuf Ali Mridha sent on leave. Two inquiry committees have been constituted to inquire the scandal.

Asked about the reports that Faruque was carrying the money to his (minister’s) residence in bribe, Suranjit said, “I'm not a purchasable commodity and nobody can purchase me.”

The beleaguered minister said certain quarters cooked up the design so that the railway sector cannot stand on its feet and achieve success.

Asked about investigation into his alleged link with the money, Suranjit said any competent authorities under the law of the land can carry out investigation.

He said the High Court Division or Appellate Division of the Supreme Court can conduct suo moto investigation or even the Anti-Corruption Commission, if it feels can do so.

Asked about some opposition leaders’ demand for his resignation, Suranjit said: “It's not a big deal for a politician like me to hold on to a ministerial job or quit after serving the cause of people for the last 55 years.’

He said: “I'm committed to people as I've fought for them throughout my life.”

Asked whether he knew beforehand that GM Yusuf Ali and APS Faruque were coming to his residence on Monday night, Suranjit said he was not aware of it.

In reply to another question, he said he did never pursue to release the Railway officials including his APS from the BGB detention.

Reiterating that it was a malicious design to humiliate him in the public eye, Suranjit said the rise of the railway to its past glory is not being liked by a section of people inside and outside the Railways Ministry.

Asked about the fate of the three Railway officials, he said appropriate actions would be taken against them on the basis of the primary reports of the investigations.

গোয়েন্দা সংস্থা সূত্রে এ তথ্য জানা গেছে। তবে চাঞ্চল্যকর এ ঘটনা ফাঁস হওয়ার পর থেকেই মন্ত্রীর একান্ত সচিবের গাড়িচালক আলী আজমকে কোথাও খুঁজে পাওয়া যাচ্ছে না। আটক হওয়া কর্মকর্তারা মন্ত্রীর বাসায় যাওয়ার কথা স্বীকার করলেও টাকার কথা স্বীকার করেননি। রেলওয়ে সংশ্লিষ্ট সূত্রমতে, বাংলাদেশ রেলওয়ের ৬৫ ক্যাটিগরিতে ৭১৪০ জনের নিয়োগ প্রক্রিয়া চলছে। ইতিমধ্যে ১৩৩৮ জনের নিয়োগ প্রক্রিয়া সম্পন্ন হয়েছে। নিয়োগ-বাণিজ্য নিয়ে তার বিরুদ্ধে নানা দুর্নীতির খবর ওপেন সিক্রেট। সূত্র জানায়, ইউসুফ আলী মৃধার নিয়োগ সিন্ডিকেটের শক্তিশালী সদস্য হিসেবে খুব কম সময়ের ব্যবধানে কয়েক কোটি টাকার সম্পত্তি গড়ে তুলেছেন রেলমন্ত্রী সুরঞ্জিত সেনগুপ্তের একান্ত সচিব ওমর ফারুক তালুকদার ও রেলওয়ে নিরাপত্তা বাহিনীর (ঢাকা বিভা&#2455 কমান্ড্যান্ট এনামুল হক। তারা দু’জনেই অধঃস্তন নিয়োগ সিন্ডিকেট নিয়ন্ত্রণ করে থাকেন। এরই ধারাবাহিকতায় বিভিন্ন জেলার লোকজনের কাছ থেকে কোটি কোটি টাকা হাতিয়ে নিয়েছেন। সর্বশেষ ধাপের নিয়োগ-বাণিজ্যের প্রায় দুই কোটি টাকা তারা তিনজনে ভাগ-বাটোয়ারা করেন। এ জন্য নিরাপদ জায়গা হিসেবে বেছে নেন একান্ত সচিব ওমর ফারুক তালুকদারের ধানমন্ডি-৩ নম্বরের বাড়ি। এ ভাগে অংশ নিতে চট্টগ্রাম থেকে ঘটনার আগেই ঢাকায় এসেছিলেন ইউসুফ আলী মৃধা। ঢাকায় এসে তিনি তার ব্যক্তিগত গাড়িতে তুলে নেন রেলওয়ে নিরাপত্তাবাহিনীর কমান্ড্যান্ট এনামুল হককে। সরাসরি যান একান্ত সচিব ওমর ফারুকের ধানমন্ডির বাসায়। সেখানে প্রত্যেকে ৩০ লাখ টাকা করে বুঝে নেন। পরে ৭০ লাখ টাকার আলাদা একটি ভাগ ব্যাগে ভরে ওমর ফারুক তার গাড়িতে তোলেন। নিজের গাড়ি ছেড়ে ইউসুফ আলী মৃধা ও এনামুল হক ওঠেন ওমর ফারুকের গাড়িতে। এরপর রওনা দেন মন্ত্রীর বাসার উদ্দেশ্যে। পুরো বিষয়টি চালক আলী আজমের নজরাধীনেই হয়েছে। তিনিও টাকার একাংশ দাবি করেছিলেন। তার দাবি মেটানো হয়নি। পরে এটিই কাল হয়ে দাঁড়ায়। কমান্ড্যান্ট এনামুল হক সাংবাদিকদের কাছে বলেন, ওই রাতে আমরা তিনজনই মন্ত্রীর বাসায় যাচ্ছিলাম। পথে চালক হঠাৎ করেই বিজিবি সদর দপ্তরের ভেতর ঢুকে পড়ে। তবে সে সময় গেটে দায়িত্ব পালনকারী বিজিবি’র সদস্যরা বাধা দেননি। একরকম বিনা বাধায় বেশ খানিক দূরে যাওয়ার পর চালক গাড়ি থামিয়ে দেয়। কোন বিষয় নিয়ে ওমর ফারুকের সঙ্গে বাগবিতণ্ডায় জড়িয়ে পড়ে। প্রায় ঘণ্টাখানেক আপস-মীমাংসার চেষ্টা চলে। এরই মধ্যে বিজিবি’র সদস্যরা আমাদের দর্শনার্থীর কক্ষে বসিয়ে রাখে। তিনি দাবি করেন, সে সময় আমাদের কাছে কোন টাকা ছিল না। ওমর ফারুকের কাছে ছিল কিনা তা-ও জানি না। তবে আমরা তিনজনই মন্ত্রীর বাসায় যাচ্ছিলাম। বিজিবি’র সূত্র জানায়, তাদের কাছ থেকে ৭০ লাখ টাকা উদ্ধার করা হয়েছিল। বিষয়টি পুলিশকে ফোন করে জানানো হয়েছিল। এরপরই তা ফাঁস হয়ে যায়। এনামুল আরও বলেন, জেনারেল ম্যানেজার ইউসুফ আলী মৃধা ঘটনার রাতে আমাকে বলেন, চলো মন্ত্রীর বাসায় যাই। তার কথামতো তার গাড়িতে উঠে ধানমন্ডি তিন নম্বরে যাই। সেখান থেকে গাড়ি বদল করে মন্ত্রীর একান্ত সচিবের গাড়িতে উঠি। চালক চিৎকার করে অবৈধ টাকার কথা বললেও আমি ওই টাকা দেখিনি। এদিকে গতকাল দুপুর ২টায় শাহজাহানপুর রেলওয়ে অফিসার্স স্টাফ কোয়ার্টারের ডি টাইপের ১/এ নম্বর ইউসুফ আলী মৃধার ফ্ল্যাটে গিয়ে তাকে পাওয়া যায়নি। দরজায় নক করলে গৃহকর্মী পরিচয়ে একজন কাজের মেয়ে বের হয়। সে বলে, বাসায় কেউ নাই। এর আগে সকাল ১১টার দিকে রেলভবনে মন্ত্রীর একান্ত সচিব ওমর ফারুক তালুকদারের কক্ষ খোলা পাওয়া গেলেও তার চেয়ার ছিল ফাঁকা। তিনি অফিস করেননি। মন্ত্রীও ছিলেন না। ওমর ফারুকের কক্ষে দু’জন ব্যক্তি বসে থাকলেও তারা তাদের পরিচয় দেননি। বলেন, আমরা মন্ত্রীর লোক। এদের একজনের নাম খুরশিদ। তিনি বলেন, বিজিবি’র সদর দপ্তরে যে গাড়ি থেকে টাকা উদ্ধার ও এপিএসসহ তিন কর্মকর্তাকে আটক করা হয়েছিল সেই গাড়ি কিংবা চালক রেল বিভাগের নয়। একান্ত সচিবের ব্যক্তিগত গাড়ি তার ব্যক্তিগত চালক চালাচ্ছিলেন। এর সঙ্গে মন্ত্রী কিংবা রেল বিভাগ জড়িত নয়। রেল ভবনের একাধিক কর্মকর্তা ও কর্মচারী জানান, মন্ত্রীর একান্ত সচিব টাকাসহ আটক হওয়ার খবর গণমাধ্যমে প্রকাশ হওয়ার পর গতকাল সকাল থেকে অন্তত ২০ জন লোক ঘুরে গেছে। তারা তার বর্তমান অবস্থান জানতে চেয়েছে। রেলসূত্র জানায়, রেল বিভাগের ৬৫ ক্যাটিগরিতে ৭২৭৫ জন নিয়োগ অনুমোদন দেয়ার পর ৭১৪০ জনের নিয়োগ বিজ্ঞপ্তি দেয়া হয়েছে। এর মধ্যে ১৩৩৮ জনের নিয়োগ সম্পন্ন হয়েছে। পরে অনুমোদন পাওয়া গেছে আরও ৫৩৬ জনের। এর বিপরীতে নিয়োগ দেয়া হয়েছে ৪৩৮ কর্মচারী। সব মিলে ১৭৭৬ জন কর্মকর্তা ও কর্মচারীর নিয়োগ প্রক্রিয়া সম্পন্ন হয়েছে। বাকি নিয়োগের ছাড়পত্রের মেয়াদ ১১/২/২০১২ তারিখে উত্তীর্ণ হওয়ায় এবং মামলা থাকায় নিয়োগ সম্ভব হয়নি। ছাড়পত্রের মেয়াদ বৃদ্ধির জন্য জনপ্রশাসন মন্ত্রণালয়ের অনুমতি চাওয়া হয়েছে। একই সঙ্গে ওই মন্ত্রণালয় থেকে ব্যাখ্যা জানাতে বলা হয়েছে। জেনারেল ম্যানেজার পূর্ব এবং পশ্চিমের কাছে বর্ধিত মেয়াদ ১১/২/২০১২-এর মধ্যে নিয়োগ সম্পন্ন না হওয়ার কারণ ব্যাখ্যার জন্য গত ১৪/৩/২০১২ তারিখে চিঠি দেয়া হয়েছে। গত ৯ই এপ্রিল এ বিষয়ে তাগিদ দিয়ে আরও একটি চিঠি দেয়া হয়েছে। সূত্র আরও জানায় ২০১০ সালের নভেম্বর থেকে রেল বিভাগের এত সংখ্যক জনবল নিয়োগ প্রক্রিয়া শুরু হয়েছে। আর তখন থেকেই রেল বিভাগের দুই জেনারেল ম্যানেজার (পূর্ব ও পশ্চিম অঞ্চ&#2482-এর অধীনে কমকর্তা ও কর্মচারীদের বিভিন্ন সিন্ডিকেট নিয়োগ ও তদ্বির বাণিজ্য শুরু করে। নিয়োগ বিজ্ঞপ্তির জনবলের মধ্যে উল্লেখযোগ্য রেলের গার্ড ৭৬, স্টেশন মাস্টার ৯১, বুকিং সহকারী ২০০, ওয়েম্যান ২৭১১, খালাসি ১৪৪১ ও ট্রেড অ্যাপ্রেনটিস পদে ৪০০ জনের নিয়োগ প্রক্রিয়া চলছে। এদের মধ্যে প্রত্যেক পদের বিপরীতে ৩ থেকে ৪ লাখ টাকা করে নিয়োগ সিন্ডিকেট হাতিয়ে নিয়েছে। তবে অবৈধ টাকা রাখার বিষয়টি স্বীকার করেননি মন্ত্রীর একান্ত সচিব ওমর ফারুক তালুকদার। ঘটনার পরপরই তিনি সাংবাদিকদের কাছে জানান, তার কাছে ২৫ থেকে ৩০ লাখ টাকা ছিল। এ টাকা লন্ডনপ্রবাসী তার শ্যালকের।
চালক আলী আজম কোথায়: এদিকে বিজিবি’র সদর দপ্তরে টাকাসহ আটক তিন কর্মকর্তাকে ছেড়ে দেয়া হলেও গাড়িচালক আলী আজমকে ছাড়া হয়নি। গোয়েন্দা সূত্র জানিয়েছে, আলী আজম বর্তমানে বিজিবি’র হেফাজতে রয়েছেন। তিনি বাইরে বেরিয়ে এলে নিয়োগ-বণিজ্যের পুরো সিন্ডিকেটের মুখোশ উন্মোচিত হয়ে পড়বে। এ আতঙ্ক থেকেই প্রভাবশালী মহল তাকে অজ্ঞাত স্থানে আটক করে রেখেছে। এ বিষয়ে জানতে চাইলে বিজিবি’র জনসংযোগ কর্মকর্তা মো. মোহসীন রেজা বলেন, আমি কিছুই জানি না। তাকে আটক রাখা হয়েছে নাকি ছেড়ে দেয়া হয়েছে- কোন বিষয়েই মন্তব্য করতে পারবো না। তিনি আরও বলেন, বিজিবি সীমান্ত রক্ষাকারী বাহিনী। কার টাকা কারা কিভাবে নিয়ে গেল সেটি দেখার দায়িত্ব পুলিশের, বিজিবি’র নয়। তবে প্রয়োজন হলে গণমাধ্যমকে আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে ডেকে পুরো বিষয়টির ব্যাখ্যা দেয়া হবে। সূত্র জানায়, রেল মন্ত্রীর একান্ত সচিব ওমর ফারুক তালুকদারের ঘনিষ্ঠজন ছিলেন চালক আলী আজম। তাদের বাড়ি একই এলাকায়। ওমর ফারুক চালক হিসেবে চাকরি করলেও দু’জন ছিলেন বন্ধু। আলী আজমের নিয়োগ তদ্বির ও নিয়োগ-বাণিজ্যের টাকা পয়সা নিয়ে দীর্ঘদিন ধরেই দু’জনের দ্বন্দ্ব চলছিল। এ দ্বন্দের সূত্র ধরেই গত সোমবার দিবাগত রাতে তিনি ইচ্ছা করে গাড়ি বিজিবি সদর দপ্তরে ঢুকিয়েছিলেন। সেখানে প্রায় ঘণ্টাখানেক আপস-মীমাংসার চেষ্টা চালিয়ে পরে বিজিবি’র ৩ নম্বর গেটে দায়িত্ব পালনকারী বিজিবি’র সদস্যদের কাছে অবৈধ টাকার বিষয়টি ফাঁস করে দেন।
টাকার উৎস খুঁজবে দুদক: গতকাল বিকালে গণমাধ্যমকর্মীদের প্রশ্নের জবাবে দুর্নীতি দমন কমিশনের চেয়ারম্যান গোলাম রহমান বলেছেন, অবশ্যই এ টাকার উৎস অনুসন্ধান করা হবে। তফসিলভুক্ত অপরাধের মধ্যে পড়লে জড়িতদের বিরুদ্ধে ব্যবস্থা নেয়া হবে।
তদন্ত শুরু হয়নি: রেলমন্ত্রী সুরঞ্জিত সেনগুপ্ত দু’টি তদন্ত কমিটি গঠনের ঘোষণা দিলেও গতকাল পর্যন্ত ওই দু’টি কমিটি কাজ শুরু করেনি। এমনকি আনুষ্ঠানিক কোন কমিটিও গঠন করা হয়নি। রেল ভবনের জনসংযোগ কর্মকর্তা ও ট্রাফিক বিভাগের পরিচালক সরদার সাহাদাত আলী বলেন, এখন পর্যন্ত তদন্ত কমিটি গঠন সংক্রান্ত আনুষ্ঠানিক কোন কাগজপত্র কিংবা চিঠিপত্র পাইনি। উল্লেখ্য, গত মঙ্গলবার সাংবাদিকদের বিভিন্ন প্রশ্নের জবাবে মন্ত্রী বলেছিলেন বিষয়টি তদন্তের জন্য দু’টি কমিটি গঠনের নির্দেশ দেয়া হয়েছে।
