CHANDIGARH: Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi accusing him of showing disrespect to the countrymen, Haryanvis in particular, by blaming his party while referring to growth. Rahul, who addressed public meeting at Gannaur in support of candidates from Sonipat and nearby districts, hailed development of Haryana in all fields during the Congress regime while giving a new slogan 'Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan, Jai Pehalwan'.
With eyes on young voters, farmers and poor, Rahul elaborated on major projects brought to Haryana by his party. At the same time he took a dig on SAD-BJP government in Punjab while comparing two neighboring states in terms of sports and other development.
"Entire world sees India as the future leader. This would not have been possible without growth and development of the country since Independence. On the other hand, Modiji says there was hardly any development. By saying this, he has shown disrespect to common men of the country as well as Haryana who have contributed towards India's growth," he said.
Lashing out at the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre, Rahul also criticized PM Modi while referring to sudden increase in the prices of life saving drugs related to cancer, diabetes and heart ailments.
"It was only during the UPA rule in the Centre and Congress rule in Haryana that 600 varieties of medicines were provided free of cost and surgeries are done without charging any money. Haryana has just 2% of the country's youths and still it wins 30% medals in the international events whereas in Punjab youngsters have virtually been pressed into drug addiction," he said.
Later Rahul also addressed the campaign rally in Rewari in favour of Congress minister Captain Ajay Singh Yadav and at Gohana. Prominent among those who spoke during the rallies include party general secretary Shakeel Ahmed, Haryana speaker Kuldeep Sharma, state Congress chief Ashok Tanwar and chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.
