RAF Eurofighter Typhoons 'beaten by Pakistani F-16s'

RAF Eurofighters Lose To F-16s?

By Glenn Pew, Contributing Editor, Video Editor

Internet chat forums have for months been alive with comments after 1970's-era F-16s were said in a Pakistani Air Force blog to have beaten state-of-the-art Eurofighter Typhoons in close air combat exercises, but there's at least one problem with the story. At the core of the issue is an interview in which an unnamed alleged Pakistani Air Force (PAF) pilot recalls flying three hops against RAF Typhoons. In those three exercises, the Typhoons lost every time, he said. When asked to explain that success rate, the interviewee offered his opinion that "NATO pilots are not that proficient in close-in air-to-air combat." The problem is there does not appear to be a specific date associated with the event and, while the story may be true, the inability to independently confirm it means it's just as likely that it's not true.

The Typhoon is touted by its supporters as one of the world's best air-to-air combat jets and has been seen by its critics as an especially expensive acquisition, yet to prove itself. In the interview, the alleged PAF pilot described the success of the older F-16s, saying the exercises favored the PAF pilots because the pilots are "very good at" close-in air combat. Details of the engagement, when it took place, specific equipment, pilot experience and the purpose of the exercise were not discussed in the interview, which has nonetheless led to online speculation and some concern. The interview has been a point of interest on three major aviation forums online, beginning several months ago and made it to TheRegister.co.uk, Wednesday. TheRegister concedes the interview may be "a lie" but "it seems likelier that the story is the truth as he perceived it: that the RAF's new superfighter was thrashed in the very type of combat it is supposed to be best at by a 1970s-era plane, albeit much modernised."

according to the report Turkish air force let the pilots of PAF to fly their planes in the excersice..which itself is enough to create doubt about the cradibility of the claim...

when did this exercise take place?

Jul 2009 , Exercise Anatolian Eagle , British and Turkish aircraft, aircraft from the United States, the United Arab Emirates and Jordan match each other in simulated air combat...

there is no mentioning of any involvment of pakistan in this exercise...

the only time Pakistan and the UK participated in this exercise together was in 2007.... the RAF brought their Tornados!!
the only time the UK brought their Typhoons was in 2009 and PAF wasn't a participant

this article is BS

but there is still a thin posiblity of a F-16 beating the RAF Typhoon in that excercise, but it was neither been flown by pakistani pilot nor a pakistan F-16..

it could have been a USAF F-16 equiped with AESA radar beating EF in a BVR engagment...

if this all coming out now after 2 years then it has to do a lot with F-16 elemination from MMRCA as to raise concern in india by putting it out from a pakistani officer ...

some paf pilots might be the exchange pilots at the turkish side

Same post as here:

Following are pictures of Turkish exchange pilots in Pakistan.

Q. What is the difference between national and international?
TuAF conducts annual Anatolian Eagle exercises - one version is national, for TuAF only and the other is international, with friendly air forces. TuAF has honoured the PAF by also letting its pilots fly in the national Anatolian Eagle exercises under Turkish command and wearing Turkish flags and badges. This is a unique honour given only to PAF pilots. The exchange pilots also get to fly TuAF F-16s in the Anatolian Eagle international exercises. So you could have 6 visiting PAF pilots flying their own PAF F-16s and the one PAF exchange pilot flying with the Turks in a TuAF F-16.

Q. Any memorable experiences that you would like to share?
On one occasion – in one of the international Anatolian Eagles - PAF pilots were pitted against RAF Typhoons, a formidable aircraft. There were three set-ups and in all three, we shot down the Typhoons. The RAF pilots were shocked.http://www.defence.pk/forums/military-aviation/22396-interviews.html

i posted this same post in 10-05-2010 and main interview 07-01-2010 , but i didnt start a new thread to get thanks and spam the forum thrice
