Turkey confirms jets harassed by MIG-29

The Turkish military says its F-16 jets were harassed and put on radar lock by an unidentified MIG-29 aircraft on the Syrian border, after Russian fighter planes violated Turkish airspace at the weekend.

'Eight Turkish F-16 jets carried out reconnaissance flights over the Turkish-Syrian border (on Monday) and during this mission our jets were held on radar lock by an unidentified MIG-29 plane for a total of four minutes and 30 seconds,' the army said in a statement.

Radar lock-on enables missile systems to automatically follow a target.
In a separate incident, the same Turkish jets were also 'harassed by missile systems deployed in Syria for a total of four minutes and 15 seconds,' the army added.

It did not go into further detail about the nature of the harassment from the missile systems or whether the Turkish jets were in any danger.

Russian aircraft violated Turkish airspace on Saturday and on Sunday, prompting Ankara to summon the Russian envoy to the foreign ministry twice to protest the breach.

The army gave no indication that the MIG-29 was a Russian plane. It had also complained a similar incident involving an unidentified MIG-29 took place on Sunday.

In Brussels, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned Moscow on Tuesday against losing Turkey's friendship and said his country cannot remain 'patient' in the face of air space violations.

NATO's chief Jens Stoltenberg accused Russia of deliberately violating Turkey's airspace during its air campaign on Syria.

Results are coming in for us too :D
Recent upgraded turkish F16.

Turkey Receives Last Upgraded F-16

Now, A very good case for MIG-35 as MMRCA... The cheapest option too.

How is this news in the Indian section. This thread should be in Russia, Middle East or turkey section...

Mig29's locking upon f-16's ? Whats the big deal in it ? F-16 is a primitive platform and almost of russian planes would lock onto it very easily.

Lets not even imagine what will happen to those f-16's if few sukhois were set in loose.
It would be akin a wolf set among the heard of chickens.

I am hoping infact you should hope aswell that, regardless, pak f16 will still have superiority over Mig 29 any time in Indo Pak scenario but to believe that it will defiantly happen.
Anyway you are not escorting anybody out who has got a lock on you, just waiting for them to get out.

Bhai bhej ke dekh loo choti se baat hai pata chul jaye ga

Radar lock isnt a small thing
You should say Russians didnt wanted to escalate the situation

Yep...

But you should remember that if things go bad then Turkey have advance force multipliers like AWACS & SAMS, they have huge number of F-16 while NATO can deploy variety of jets like EF, Rafale, F-15/16/18 and F-22.

There are no Russian MiG-29s in Syria, only Su-24s, Su-25s, Su-34s and Su-30SMs and that's that.

Those MiG-29s were Syrian MiGs, whether or not they were flown by Russian pilots is a different matter, but I doubt that too.

But you forgot that there was news that Mig-31/29 sent by Russia to Syria, who fly those?

iam not sure the mig29 of Syria are old generation
Russia dont have mig29 in Syria

the mig29 log in the f16 is big deal things can turn interesting

Those were upgraded F16s, across the border walo, ab kya hobo????:fie:

If MIG-29 can do, Imagine SU-30.:nhl_checking: :haha:
Try it, then will see.

Talking too much like the fellow indiots, will see if actually happens who end up eating chickens alng with beef.

I would take this with a grain of salt. Turkey is looking for any excuse to make Assad/Putin look bad.
That is the job of the US media. I rarely read negative news about Russia in the Turkish press. Putin's calculation with the recent provocations is to prove that NATO is an obsolete organization. Bunch of old man giving mouth service in Brussels. Same counts for Obama who's red lines have been violated multiple times.

This is funny

Do you guys thinks 4 min lock and f16 was not even trying to break free from it ? 4 min in fighter like f16 is huge time .. and imagine what pilot was going through ?

4 mins might be like 4 years to that pilot who knows that there is a radar lock on his back side and he was not sure what could be the end here....

either its a fake news or pilot was not properly trained which i doubt as well but 4 min lock on F16 ??

looks like its was done to get better fighters from USA ? could be anything ..

I would take this with a grain of salt. Turkey is looking for any excuse to make Assad/Putin look bad. until Russia confirms they locked up F-16s this is unconfirmed.

and you would think Turkish ground based radars would pick up Mig-29s/Su-30s as well . til they show those radar tracks I don't believe it.

Assad, Putin, NATO, Israel, Iran, Turkey, Saudi, etc...are all bad, no excuses needed. Not too long ago our Air Force targeted a hospital, just for the sake of it. And we citizens come up with justifications for unneeded actions, we don't even need to be targeting anybody there in most cases.

Turks are pros, they don't have to prove their balls to a cowboy locking his radar on them. NATO is losing patience, and if this trend continues it will lead to a clash. Last time an F-16 & a Mig-29 came face to face this is how it ended.

Some people even mistake US passive aproach as weakness when in fact US could beat literaly every country on this planet easily.

It's on news

NATO Secretary General said high readiness Forces are ready and can be deployed at Turkey's borders within 48 hours.

NATO wide talks have started to redeploy an allied air defense system over Turkey.

And one thing to keyboard ignorant civilians whom think they have even 1% of military knowledge, search on Google what "Rules of Engagement" mean and what it costs to an officer if he/she disobeys it and shoots down an aggressor aircraft at friendly airspace..
