They chased you with glass bottles? Not good at all. I hope you are safe now and not in the ghetto of Queens. I've had generally good interaction with African Americans, but I agree with you that they should be more considerate of other minorities.

Yeah, i'm out of that area now. I live in a White neighborhood now, never encountered any racism though i do get the occasional stare now and then but nothing close to being chased with broken glass bottles so the stares really don't bother me at all.

And im not generalizing all Blacks, some of them are really nice people.

Btw this video reminds of something:

A few years ago I was in Philadelphia. Since I had never been to Philadelphia (afterall one of the most famous American cities) and hadn't been in the US for a long time before I thought: "Why not take a sightseeing bus?" (Philadelphia has these pretty practical hop on hop off buses).

Believe it or not, the tour guide on the second bus I entered looked like KRS One and spoke with this inimitable slang, pronounciation and gesticulation.

I was literally speechless.

I was the only European in that bus, the others were all white Americans *all of which acted normal*

"Oooh...Gee...Do you see that house over there? How nice!"

After maybe 10-15 minutes the guide got on my nerves and I hopped off the bus.

Unreal...

I then corrected her that I'm not Chinese but Japanese, to which she responded with, "Same difference , right?"

Now, these are not representative of all Americans. But it is disconcerting to us immigrants.

To be honest, me as well when i was a teenager i thought all east Asians where all Chinese.lool As far as they had a little slit eye/were from a mongoloid race and spoke an asian language similar to chinese.lol Its not really being racists just ignorance. Many people cant seem to differentiate between a Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Thai and even filipinos from Chinese. I noticed this during my visits to several Asian and Latinos countries where all the mentioned Asian people above are all called Chinese for some reason.lol sometimes it annoys the hell outta those who aren't, but then again what can they do? even when they correct people by saying they are not chinese, the next day the still call them: hey chinese guy. lool

In her defence, is it not true that most Japanese are ethnic Han?
I know you said you are part Ainu, so I don't know how 'Han' you look, but she might be going by general looks.
It's the same as us being called 'Indian'.
It's a reasonable assumption from a foreigner who can't be expected to know one's nationality just by looks.

You'd think that Blacks after having suffered from Racism themselves would show some sort of sympathy for other minorities, but clearly that isn't the case.

Not to defend this woman's behavior, which is indefensible, but there are three things going on:

a) many immigrants want to identify with the dominant whites, rather than with blacks. Many immigrants bring their own baggage of racism from the old country, which tends to be anti-dark skin.

b) the anti-black racism in white culture goes back centuries and is deeply ingrained (politically correct platitudes notwithstanding). Many American whites treat immigrants better than they treat blacks. Blacks resent that favoritism which tells them that, despite centuries of presence in America, they are destined to be the bottom layer of society.

c) political correctness allows some people to act racist and get away with it, because no one will dare to criticize them.

Black Americans are just very arrogant and to blame for most of their problems and the situation they are in. They are very privileged compared to blacks in Africa IMO.
