First of all we are not spending huge money on defence our defence budget is well balenced just 2.5% of the entire GDG much much less than many richer and as well as poor countries e.g Pakistan.

Secondly we not only purchase item off the shelf we buy with technology transfer. The main reason behind many different kind of planes and other weapons purchase is technology transfer and technological know how.

Lastly as far as i know yes we are going to induct more than 90 warship in our navy in next 7-10 years.

So currently how many fighter (all) does India have. How many AC, frigate, corvette and submarine.

I think around 500 or 600 combat aircraft. If you exclude AWACS, transport etc.,

Naval ships more than a 100 I guess.

Am too lazy to look for exact numbers though

Most important is why is there such huge spending on defence, I think you are going over the top, like 2-3 AC, so many different jets and massive spending when you have enough deterrence and not an upcoming war..... Instead of buying so so much if you spend some of that on the poor it can help like build like a massive housing project for poor, like hundreds of modern flats will cost you like 1/10 of even one AC.

Second is why is their buying so unorganised, you have so many different jets it looks very unorganised like soon rafale, Russian SU jets, Russian migs, Indian new jet coming up, New PAKFA, harrier, jaguar etcccc already counted so many instead why don't you have like 3 that can do many roles.


Also I read that you will get 100 ships by 2017 is that serious? By ships do you mean everything even coast guards and little things or just big, if it's true I think that just mad spending to show off, we have a word ayagn yorganina göre uzat which mean do appropriate spending.

our defence spending is just 2% of gdp, our adversary is spending around 3.5% of their GDP on defence. we have a ever becoming stronger China, and regional bad boy Pakistan as a threat to our security so spending logical.


about fighter jets, even though it's ideal to have jack of all trade kind of aircraft some times we need specialist aircraft for each role.any way in future we are going to reduce the types of fighters in our inventory once the old ones retire because the new ones are multi role capable.


mig29 was take for air superiority role but it had many short comings, and soviets offered mki with long range, and better capabilities. other mig's are soon going to be retired.

jag's are for dedicated attack role, it's being upgraded so is mirage which is multi role.

In future Iaf will have new fighter like

lca- light weight multi role, cheap, fill up numbers, to defend Indian sky, made in India.

rafale - multi role, medium weight category.

mki- heavy long range, air superiority.

FGFA by 2020 - heavy fifth gen multi role fighter.
AMCA - by 2030- medium weight, stealth, multi role , fully Indian.


same with navy , China is flexing it's muscle ,so to protect our interests we need to have at least one third of number and capability what China have.
