I really don't get why Qatar purchased F15s, EF2K AND Rafales. Why didn't they just chose one and order more of it? Or may be one heavy and one light aircraft?

Qatar bought political support from the US,The UK and France against the Uae and KSA blockage

btw Qatar gets very powerful and deterrent Airforce which will not be depend on one country during the possible arms embargo

It's not that they don't want to develop that capabilities but beyond their means, core system are not any countries can develop it. It's time consuming, expensive and require massive know how which only a few major industries countries can do it. For example propulsion system like high performance tank engine, jet engine and gas turbine for big modern destroyers. Modern transmission system that can convert combustion energy into full electricity.

Look at South Korea and Japan. Despite their know how and quite advance industries. Quite a number of major weapon like destroyers still needs to import US LM-2500 gas turbine from US in order for their destroyer project to complete.

Qatar doesnt have defense industry to develop its own weapons
Turkey has started developing its own weapons after 1975 arms embargo by the US and now Turkey develops over 700 military projects including Tank engine , turbosaft engines for Helicopters , turbofan engine for Jets for 1,7 billion Islamic World including Qatar
and Qatar can funding or join some major Turkish military projects ...

Great to see Katar is arming up fast!! Once you have the UAE in your neighborhood no defense is ever enough...

The question is who'll be piloting them to its fullest extent???? Countries with 10s of millions of folks can't find competent pilots!! Katar needs at the least 200+ full time pilots (age < 45 yrs)...

Not all countries are blessed with "killer" battle ready pilots with skills and competence when it needs most!! For example, in spite of the massive air forces, the Indians, Egyptians, Russians etc. lose their jets right and left even during a minor engagement...

Don't get why they go for both Typhoon and Rafale. They both do the same thing, and it is only increasing their costs as hiring and training crew and pilots for two different systems. I know that Arab countries don't go for full U.S supplied Air Force because of Israel but it seems like a waste of money going for Typhoon and Rafale.

Saudi Arabia too has a very powerful airforce... much more stronger than Qatar....

Remember they too have Eagles, Typhoons, , E3 sentry awacs.... that too in much higher numbers than Qatar.....

They have more experience in operating these platforms than Qatar as they have procured these things much earlier than Qatar....

However Saudi Arabia army and navy are too much weak.... so they can't project their power.....

I seriously doubt Qatar AF can be effective unless they employ plenty of mercenaries but then the loyalty is a big doubt.
