PRIVATIZATION OF PIA TO QATAR AIRWAYS COMPLETES BY MARCH 2016

Will Pakistan Airways replace Pakistan International Airlines?

DISPATCH NEWS DESK FEB 20, 2016
KARACHI, Pakistan - In an apparent bid to take Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) out from the list of national assets, THE operational name of PIA has been changed to Pakistan Airways.

PIA had earlier been transformed as a Limited Company instead of a Corporation.

According to an official statement issued by the PIA authorities on Saturday, a subsidiary of the airlines has been registered with the title of Pakistan Airways (PA).

Spokesman of PIA, Danyal Gillani, in a statement said, “Referenc[ing] media queries, please note that Pakistan Airways has been registered as a premium service subsidiary of PIA. This would help improve the service standard and image of the national airline.”

However, his statement did not explain with what name aircrafts of the national carrier will fly. Will it be PIA flights with a PIA logo or will PA now fly in the skies?

The PIA trade union claims that Pakistan has already sold out PIA to Qatar Airways, while the government of Pakistan denies such claims. This new development has again highlighted controversies shrouding PIA.

yar ab yeh Pakistan airways ka kya nya syapa hay.why can't we just simply sell it and be done with it.

I hope it's not a rumor. Qatar Airways is one of the leading airlines in the world and it would boost our service and image.

But for that you sell to a company that is based outside of Pakistan, where the profits go, where it can evade the due taxes it has coming to it, and is not entirely liable to comply to the state or the people of Pakistan in some cases.

This is one of those moments, one has to decide on which trade-off we want to go with, and if any alternatives are available.

bro as far as we are concerned we don't want to control it or for that matter have any type of relation with it we just want to see it gone off our back and neck from where it is sucking more tax money annually then it ever paid back in taxes in last 20 year.so pls just get rid of it and let its new owner do what ever he wants to do with it we don't need its control or any other type of interest in it we just want to see it gone.:hitwall::hitwall::hitwall::hitwall:

What are the alternatives? Emirates took a management stake in Air Lanka and transformed it into a modern and profitable airline. Airfrance owns KLM of Netherlands and there are many other such examples. What's wrong if a leading foreign airlines takes over PIA?

While I do think the PIA needs to be privatized, not like this. The government has made it extremely controversial by hiding facts and figures, not to mention lying to the public and parliament. Privatizing the airline would never have been this difficult if NS was upfront about everything.

I've not suggested that we keep it in public ownership, I said alternatives, I meant private alternatives.
What's wrong with deals like these is often the case observed everywhere, the deals are done behind closed curtains, the public has no say in them, the prices are determined often by the financial interests of each player, including corruption and bribery, often public assets are sold off too cheaply, and deals constructed that take any regulatory authority away.

Remember, anyone who buys the PIA will have the entire market hostage in Pakistan, you'd better pray that whoever was selling it at this time did a good job protecting Pakistani consumers.

Nawaz wants to sell the airline to his grand daughter's father in law. I would rather sell it to Qatar Airways than to dump it into the Shareef Empire a la Muslim Commercial Bank which was sold for a quarter of its value to the family.

What is the private sector in Pakistan and who are the candidates ? Fariyal Talpur, Darr or the Shareefs? They are as corrupted and incompetent. Only a foreign managements can safe the airline.
