First of all, China's interest in upgrading Pakistan's storage facilities, and product transportation, which Pakistan needs badly. It's said that up to a third of all Pakistan's fruits meant for export, tend to go to waste, due to poor storage and transportation methods.

As for the automobile industry, the lack of interest is from the Chinese government, not private Chinese corporations. JAC Motors of China has already said it wants to start a manufacturing plant within Pakistan, and this was reportedly done outside of any government to government dealing.

The issue is that Pakistan's auto industry is fiercely protectionist, and any new competition is often met with massive propaganda against the new player; A recent example is Pak Suzuki threatening to withdraw $500 million dollars of investment, if the government went ahead with plans to reform the industry and bring in new competition. Of course, Pak Suzuki didn't actually go through with the plan, and the government went ahead with the reforms, but the sentiment is very real, and not just exclusive to Pak Suzuki.

[Edit]: By the way @SOUTHie , I live in Canada, and identify as Canadian. It isn't my job what Pakistanis think, say, or do. Quite frankly, high corruption is no excuse to try and build a better future.

CPEC is not a silver bullet, after all CPEC primarily focus on infrastructure projects, only help to build a foundation and reduce business risk and cost in some extent. Pakistan has to manage to build a private investor friendly environment to pave the way to prosperity.

I mostly agree, though I do think that some protectionist measures should be taken.

Protectionist are everywhere, China, US, EU all major economy players have. Every nation SHOULD protect its own industry when necessary.

However, it's a very small part of "private investor friendly environment" regarding whether protect or not.

Wah! What India has to do anything with CPEC. India's rank is irrelevant in this thread. You do realize that ranking of India-China-Pakistan are still under most corrupt category. It's still worst. I don't claim a moral high ground citing we ranked above or below China.
