PESHAWAR, Pakistan (AP) — A spokesman for Pakistan's main Taliban group says the head of a side-group has been stripped of his leadership for welcoming the government's peace talk offer.

The Tahrik-e-Taliban Pakistan's spokesman Shahidullah Shahid said Saturday that the group's executive council has removed Ismatullah Muawiya from the leadership of Pujabi Taliban militants.

Shahid said in a statement that Muawiya was not authorized to respond to the Pakistan government's offer for talks. He said the group's leadership will issue later their stance on talks.

Muawiya responded to The Associated Press that the executive council didn't have the capacity to remove him because the Punjabi Taliban is a separate group. He said his group has its own decision-making body to decide leadership and other matters.

Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan has refused Sharif's peace ofer and ejected one of its top leaders for welcoming it (IE)

Differences emerged among Taliban factions over talks with the government after the main militant group expelled a top commander on Saturday for welcoming Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's offer to end violence through dialogue.

Punjabi Taliban chief Asmatullah Muawiya, who had on Thursday said Sharif had shown maturity by asking rebels to join peace efforts, was expelled by the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

A spokesman of the TTP, an umbrella group of over a dozen factions, said Muawiya had no authority to respond to the government's offer as such decisions are solely the domain of the high powered 'Shura' or council.

"We have nothing to do with Muawiya from today and we will appoint a new chief of the Punjabi Taliban," said spokesman Shahidullah Shahid.

The TTP is headed by warlord Hakimullah Mehsud, a hardliner who has so far rejected all peace moves by the government.

Muawiya is also head of the dreaded Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, the largest militant group in central Punjab province. He has been linked to deadly attacks on the security forces and the minority Shia community.

The Punjabi Taliban and the LeJ are also linked to Al Qaeda.

Media reported that in his immediate reaction to his removal by the Taliban, Muawiya said the TTP had no authority to do so as he was independent of them.

Sharif, in his first televised speech on Thursday, asked the militants to enter peace talks to end deadly violence in the country.

The ongoing bombings, gun battles and suicide attacks have killed over 40,000 people across Pakistan in the past six years.

Several extremist groups ASWJ etc are roaming freely in Punjab under PML-N's protection, as they are political allies. These groups, especially ASWJ is able to do killings in Hazara against Shias with no problems at all..

Just yesterday, 2 BANNED extremist groups had clashes in Punjab in open, killing 11 people from both groups. So now they are able to roam freely and kill each other without any tension of getting caught by law enforcement forces.. Damn they are enjoying living in Punjab, no?

TTP leader sacked for welcoming government’s talks offer
Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), the terror outfit currently fighting Pakistani state, sidelined one of its senior leaders, Asmatullah Muaweea, for welcoming talks offer from the government of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. Sharif offered talks to the terrorist leaders as one of the options to deal with the issue of terrorism which has claimed nearly 45,000 innocent lives. The other option, if the talks fail, would be use of force to establish the writ of State. Muaweea, commander of one of the TTP factions had welcomed the offer and praised Sharif for maturity.
This has visibly angered Hakeemullah Mehsud, TTP central commander. TTP spokesperson on Saturday announced that they have removed a key commander for welcoming a call for dialogue by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif over ending bloodshed that has left thousands dead. Another commander and second in TTP hierarchy, Wali-ur-Rehman Mehsud, was killed in drone strike a couple of months back for supporting talks with the government. It was widely believed that the coordinates of his whereabouts were provided by Hakeemullah Mehsud for a precision drone strike to kill his own number two.
Pakistan has been accusing that TTP was a proxy of foreign powers tasked to destabilize the country. It is widely believed that India and the US are supporting TTP through Afghan intelligence with money and arms and explosives. Afghan Taliban have also distanced themselves from TTP.
