Amritsar, May 30 (ANI): Punjab police have arrested a terrorist of the outlawed Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF), wanted in over 25 criminal cases by the police and recovered 2.3 kg RDX, a detonator, 30 bore pistol and 28 cartridges from him.

Bakshish Singh alias Baba was arrested on Saturday by a team of the special operation cell of the intelligence wing of Punjab police.

According to Police, the terrorist was allegedly working for revival of the banned terrorist outfit.

“Baba was working to revive the defunct KLF in Punjab and was working at the behest of Pakistan’s spy agency ISI (Inter Services Intelligence). He was planning major strikes in Punjab and Haryana in the coming months. We will try to unearth his

links and plans during the interrogation,’ said Amritsar Police Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma here.

Baba, is a native of Nizamniwala village in Punjab’s Patiala district and was involved in several terrorist activities in the region.

Police have termed arrest as a big achievement.
‘This arrest is a big achievement for us,’ Sharma said.

During the interrogation, Baba purportedly admitted that he was involved in planting Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) outside a liquefied petroleum gas bottling plant in Nabha town in Patiala district and an explosive device in a Maruti car near the Indian Air Force’s Halwara air base in January this year, he said.

Police stated that Baba was involved in more than 25 cases, including a bomb attack on the convoy of Dera Sacha Sauda sect chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim at Karnal, in Haryana, in February 2008.

After that he escaped to Malaysia with the help of another wanted terrorist, Harminder Singh alias Mintu of Goa, and had later reached Pakistan, the police official added. (ANI)

AMRITSAR: Five people have been arrested from a village in Punjab and six kilograms of RDX as well 20 detonators, time-devices and heroin recovered from them, police said on Thursday.

The special operation cell of the intelligence wing of Punjab Police raided a village in this border district follow a tip-off, said a senior official.

"We have arrested five accused and recovered six kilograms of RDX, 20 detonators, 10 time-devices, 10 metres of fuse wire and two kilograms heroin from their possession," the official told IANS on condition of anonymity.

"Right now we are not in a position to tell from where they had procured these explosives and drugs. Their interrogation is on and very soon we will unearth the truth. We will look into all aspects and also try to ascertain whether they have any foreign links," he added.

On May 30 last month, the special operation cell had arrested a terrorist of the banned outfit Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF) Bakshish Singh alias Baba and recovered 2.3 kilograms RDX from his possession.

He was involved in several terrorist activities in Punjab and Haryana.

This year, police have arrested at least nine terrorists belonging to different banned groups. Besides, they have twice recovered explosives near Indian Air Force stations in Punjab.

Amritsar, May 8 (IANS) A car with two kg of explosives was found abandoned near a busy railway station here Saturday, police said. The vehicle carried a fake Delhi registration number.
“The car (DEA 5554) was found near the crowded station,” Amritsar police Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma told IANS.

“The shopkeepers of the area informed the police about the suspicious vehicle. We cordoned off the area,” he added.

“One detonator and two packets of explosives, weighing nearly two kg, were recovered from the vehicle. The packets have been sent to the laboratory to ascertain their exact content and the nature of the explosives.

“An extensive search operation has been launched in the area,” he added.

Police deployed sniffer dogs and bomb disposal squads in the area.

Police sources said that besides explosives, a cooking gas cylinder was also found inside the car.

Hundreds of passengers commute through the railway station in Amritsar, 217 km from Chandigarh and 28 km from the Wagah border with Pakistan.

Although, so far, no particular terrorist outfit has taken the responsibility, police believe this incident was part of the attempt of Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) and Khalistani Liberation Force (KLF) elements to revive terrorism in Punjab.

Notably, it is the third such incident in the recent times.

Earlier, in January this year, an explosive device was found in a Maruti car near Indian Air Force’s (IAF) Halwara base in Jagraon town.

Again in January, two grenades were discovered near an IAF station near Zirakpur town. In the same month, a bomb was found outside an Indian Oil liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) bottling plant in Nabha town in Patiala district.

Senior police officials have expressed apprehensions over the re-grouping of various terrorist organisations in the state.

On April 24, two Pakistani intruders were gunned down by police in Norat Jaimal Singh area of Gurdaspur district after a fierce gun battle that left two police personnel dead and one injured.

Mohali (Punjab), May 29 (IANS) Punjab Police Saturday arrested a Pakistani spy from near an Indian Air Force (IAF) station here, an officer said.
The accused, identified as Irfan Ulha, 29, is a native of Lahore in Pakistan, police said. He was arrested from near the IAF station in Mullanpur, neighbouring state capital Chandigarh.

“From the preliminary investigation it is revealed that Irfan was on a spy mission to India and he was collecting information about airports and IAF stations across the country,” said G.P.S. Bhullar, district police chief, at a press conference here Saturday evening.

“We have recovered a pistol, 20 live cartridges, photographs of airports and various maps from his possession,” he added.

“We have also recovered a hand-written dairy from him in which he has written various secret codes that we are trying to decode. He was getting help from terrorists of the KJF (Khalistan Jindabad Force) and Germany-based militant Gurmeet Singh Bagga.”

Bhullar said that Irfan had illegally entered India and was staying here using a fake identity.

During interrogation, Irfan told police that he had graduated in the arts and was teaching physics, english and mathematics at a school in Lahore before coming to India.

Senior Punjab Police officials have admitted on several occasions that terrorist outfits are trying to reactive themselves in the state.

This year alone, police have arrested at least seven terrorists belonging to different banned groups. Besides, they have twice recovered explosives near IAF stations in Punjab.

In January, an explosive device was found in a Maruti car near the IAF’s Halwara air base. In the same month, two grenades were discovered near an IAF station near Zirakpur town.

In the same month, a bomb was found outside a liquefied petroleum gas bottling plant in Nabha town in Patiala district.

Two arrested with explosives, weapons in Punjab

Patiala (Punjab), Feb 21 (IANS) Two men were arrested Sunday from this Punjab town for possessing explosives and weapons, police said.
Both the arrested men belonged to the Khalistan Liberation Front (KLF), a terrorist organisation that was active in the state during years of Sikh militancy from 1982 to 1995, a police official told IANS.

The police recovered nearly eight kg of explosives and 40 gelatin sticks from their possession. Two pistols and some ammunition were also recovered from them, the official said.

“They were planning for a major strike in the state. Further investigations are on,” a police official said in Patiala, about 70 km from state capital Chandigarh.

The Punjab police have in the last two months recovered explosives from two places in Patiala district.

Explosive material was recovered outside an Indian Oil Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) refilling plant near Nabha town, 25 km from here, last month.

Just five days later, two grenades were found by the police on a road leading to an Indian Air Force (IAF) station at Zirakpur, 20 km from Chandigarh.
