LAHORE - The Punjab government has approved the formation of Punjab Energy Council to solve the energy crisis and promote investment in this sector. The decision was taken during a high level meeting in Lahore under the chairmanship of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif who would be the chairman of the council.
The chief minister also constituted four sub-committees for the better working of the energy council. The institution will provide one-window facilities to the investors in Punjab.
Speaking at the meeting CM said the energy council will meet twice a week and work speedily for meeting the energy requirements of the province. He directed the officials to evolve a policy frame work for the generation of energy from solar bio mass bio gas and coal.
The chief minister directed the officials to make a financial model for setting up a 200MW coal power project in the province. He said that government has allocated 10,000 acres of land in Cholistan desert for the establishment of Quid-e-Azam Solar Park.
Separately, CM Shahbaz Sharif issued instructions to the administration of the provincial metropolis as well as other cities to take immediate measures for the drainage of water accumulated due to heavy rains in the province.
He remained in constant contact with the administration and sought latest information about the situation as well as issued necessary instructions. He directed Lahore administration to take prompt measures for the disposal of rainwater, especially from low-lying areas.
Shahbaz directed that administrative and WASA officers should personally supervise arrangements in this regard. He also directed that traffic police should remain present on the roads for maintaining a smooth flow of traffic. He said that government departments and agencies should perform their responsibilities efficiently and resolve all rain related problems being faced by the people on immediate basis.
On the other hand, a delegation of a prominent Chinese company met the chief minister on Wednesday and discussed matters regarding extension project of metro bus and underground train system.
The delegation of NORINCO International was led by its Vice President Wang Xiaobing. Metro Bus Authority Managing Director Khawaja Ahmad Hassan, Transport secretary, Punjab Investment Board vice chairman, Lahore Ring Road Authority chairperson, Lahore Commissioner and Lahore Development Authority DG were also present on the occasion.
Xiaobing expressed interest in both underground train system and extension project of metro bus and offered his companys cooperation. The chief minister welcomed the gesture and said that NORINCO International could invest in both these mega projects.
He said that transparency and high standard were hallmark of Punjab government and all agreements will be made in a transparent manner in future as well. The chief minister also hosted a luncheon in honour of the Chinese delegation.
