Are you talking about the original east punjab in india or the one you chopped up into different segmenents....Haryana and Pahari Himachal Pradesh ect ?
The number of tractors and diversity of brands seen operating in India's Punjab quite outnumbers the Pakistan side.

Pakistan set up its tractor factorys back in the 60s and now has a few players in the market with Fiat,Massey Ferguson,New Holland,Millet,Fecto,Dewan ect....there are new chinese companies that just entered the market and you will see more competition and a deeper penetration.

Not really true......combined harvesters are used a lot in southern punjab where farmers own large tracts of land while in northern punjab the farmers own less land and thus a combined harvesters is of very little use.
Apart from better seeds, farmers on the Indian side of the Punjab border have greater access to fertilisers. Cruising through the 370 km Islamabad-Lahore motorway, one could see several patches of light green wheat fields clearly showing that the crop was deficient in nitrogenous fertiliser. In contrast, the wheat fields on the Indian side were a lush dark green carpet reflecting the better health of the crop.
I dont know about less access to seed and fertilisers but there is definitely less eduction on the right use and benefits of fertilisers in pakistan.....more awarness would be good.
Similarly, on the Pakistan side, one can see stretches of unproductive saline or "Kallar" land. All such wastelands on the Indian side have been reclaimed years ago with liberal doses of gypsum, which is in short supply in Pakistan.
If your talking about the land between the islambad-lahore motorway then this is more then likely be used for building shops and homes in the future so really not worthwile for the owner to bring into production.......other parts of punjab could well use the method you mention and it would be good if the govt looked into this.
the difference in the level of prosperity is reflected in the size of the houses in Indian villages which are much bigger and sport a concrete finish.
Going of what the sikhs have to say that you meet in lahore pakistan punjab seems to be a lot better off.
On the Pakistan side, villages still have some mud houses and there are more houses with a mere brick finish.
I think you will find that most of the "mud houses" you talk about are for animals and the "brick finish house" are actually little poultry farms........am not saying that for moment that pakistan does not have a lot of problems but a lot of what the reporter said as he wizzed passed in car on GT road is actually inccorrect and biased.
I recall a indian reporter on british television travelling down GT road complaing about the section that joins onto india and how bad it was and went on and on about it until somebody pointed out that less then 1% of his time was spent on a rubbish road in pakistan while the other 99% of his journey was on a world class road........what do expect from a person with negative and biased thoughts about you right from the start.
Besides, cars are a common sight in the villages of India's Punjab but one only occasionally gets a glimpse of them in the villages on the other side.
