PTI leader condemns talk of dividing Sindh

KARACHI: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) said on Thursday that a division of Sindh would not be acceptable at any cost.

“As a Sindhi, I condemn any talk of dividing Sindh,” said PTI Sindh president Nadir Akmal Khan Leghari at a press conference at Palwal House, the residence of a senior PTI leader.

The party leader announced that PTI chief Imran Khan will be coming to Karachi on Sunday afternoon to address a sit-in near the Mazar-e-Quaid and would fly back to Islamabad the same night. He said that it had been a long time since Imran had interacted with the people of Karachi, and he was coming to meet them and express his gratitutde for their support.

Leghari asserted that had elections been free and fair in Karachi, PTI would have emerged as the biggest party, with the highest number of seats and votes in the metropolis. “In the next general elections, PTI will be the major party from Sindh,” he declared.

Referring to the recent incident where PIA passengers had forced Pakistan Peoples Party’s Rehman Malik and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s Ramesh Kumar off the plane, Leghari said that the PTI had exposed the VIP culture of Pakistani society and called for an end to this culture.

“Target killings have been prevalent in Karachi for years,” he said, moving on to the law and order situation in the city. “The law enforcement agencies know who these killers are, but they are not arrested and roam around freely instead.”

Leghari claimed that unlike the Punjab police, the Sindh police had been actively participating in PTI’s sit-ins in Karachi.

The problem is that nobody wants to unify the country except maybe Altaf Hussain. When the sense of helplessness and exploitation reaches a critical point, things tend to get out of control and once things get out of control people stop listening to reasoning. I hope it does not happen and that the country is given new provinces to alleviate the just grievances and concerns of minorities.

The biggest concern for Karachiites is that we are unable to implement what we want in our city despite our selected party getting almost every seat in Karachi. As the ultimate decision lays in the hands of ignorant, uneducated Sindhi morons! The biggest example here is local government system.

Incorrect, MQM neither wants to break Sindh nor does it control it as otherwise we would have been blessed with Local government system atleast.

Edit: If the Demand of more administrative units is from a genuine and good intention from a leader then i support it but MQM is a shady one thats why i am doubtful..

I think there should be more provinces in Pakistan including making Karachi and its adjoining areas into a province of its own. But this is not the right time.
I wish all this was done by some dictator like Zia or Musharraf in their early days they had the political parties floored and these generals had the most acceptability. In a few months they could have put things into place. It would have been hard to undo 20+ provinces after 10+ years of their rules.
But in Pakistan we have neither the dictators fully dictators nor the democrats fully democrats.

PS. Yes, the progress of Pakistan and Karachi is being held back by the rural Sindh. Karachi is too multicultural to be called an 'MQM City' and so making a Karachi province is a good idea.

Realistically speaking new provinces are not division of land or culture, it must be related to growth of administrative powers and empowering of people. Though all of us have many reservations regarding MQM but their stance on new provinces is quit valid. It should help communities to flourish. Also law and order situation in Pakistan shall hence improve resulting in improved economics, commerce and Industry. One should first get him or herself educated and then debate on pros and cons.
