Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has blocked over 900 web URLs and at least 10 websites owned by banned organizations. The steps were taken under the National Action Plan (NAP), as per the report of Radio Pakistan.
PTA has blocked over 400,000 websites and over 25,000 of those were run with extremist or anti-Pakistan agenda. The new list adds on to the previous tally of banned organizations.
Interior Ministry and law enforcement agencies have also registered 17,562 cases and arrested 19,289 people who were allegedly linked with hate speech, possessing extremist literature or misuse of loudspeakers.
National Action Plan (NAP) was founded to curb the menace of extremism after the attack on Army Public School in Peshawar two years ago. The government has also included cyber extremism under the umbrella of NAP, which is why action against extremist factors on social media and web are also being brought under control.
The government is also taking action with regards to registration and regulation of Madaris. The provincial governments have begun a geo-mapping process for Madaris under the standard parameters set by the federal government, reports Radio Pakistan.
It was also reported that the Karachi operation has resulted in a significant success as crime rates have been reduced massively. It has been reported that there has been a 90 percent decrease in terrorist incidents, 91 percent decline in target killings, 48 percent reduction in robberies, and murders have come down by 62 percent.
With regards to Balochistan and reconciliation efforts towards it, data showed that submission and rehabilitation of previously militant elements is currently under progress.
