At launch, we will offer two options: a PlayStation®5 console with an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive and a PlayStation®5 Digital Edition without a disc drive. The PS5 gameplay experience will be the same, so the choice is all yours. While there are some slight differences in the look of each model, for the overall design, we wanted to deliver a console that’s bold, stunning, and unlike any previous generation of PlayStation.

Well if we go by spec wise then Xbox is the winner, lets just see how well Microsoft does in marketing. They clearly have the opportunity to take a lead. All the have to do is reel in some big named game developers. The air flow and the built dynamic of Xbox looks so great compared to PS5 which looks like an eye-candy but I am a bit conscious about airflow...

on specs, the Xbox is more powerful, and some players will move to Xbox this round, but there is quite a strong following for PS and people like me cannot rewire their brains to use the assymetric xbox controller.

1. PS5 specifications are yet to be confirmed, though Sony not saying anything regarding specifications is an indication that they are lesser than the series X. Let's see by how much.

2. I don't think see particularly many people switching to the XBOX due to the fact that they have no exclusives or game support at launch or for the year 2021. Since Xbox games are available on PC as well now, I actually see people sticking to the PS5 for its exclusives. Let's see.. For myself I can't wait for Gran Turismo 7. Currently playing Forza 7 on PC.

3. The custom SSD on the PS5 is amazing, plus the new 3D audio.. thumbs up!

.
Specs aside, the design is disgusting, also look what they are doing to the controller, playstation had the best all rounder controller since the ps1 days (when they added the dual joysticks during the revised version). Thats why for 3 gens it stayed the same and with the ps4 I feel that was an upgrade, but now its turning out to become more of a brick (bulky).. not happy, I probz have to buy another ps4 controller for the vault [used for pc gamming]. I liked the playstation designs because they were comfortable playing fighting games with the d-pad unlike the analogue stick placement of the xbox and nintendo (ironically the pioneers of the dpad*), but the direction (pun intended) sony is taking the playstation I wouldn't be surprised if they forgo the d-pad for the analogue in the future.

This was the original design of the ps3 controller before the backlash:

I believe this time Microsoft will eventually win the console war just because of the RAW power. Probably in the beginning Sony will lead but eventually after some years multi platforms will perform better on Xbox which will lead people to switch to Xbox just as People jumped to Xbox wagon back in 2006-2010 when Ps3 was powerful but hard to code on to dueidue to its complex architecture and literally every multi platform game performed better on Xbox 360.

This is true Sony will have the best exclusives for years to come and a solid fan base.

While Microsoft will play catch up with sony on exclusives but will lead in multi Plat and shooting games.

Yes they have made the PS5 controller resemble the Xbox controller quite a bit. Let's see how it feels before we pass judgement.

Agreed, however what if Sony & MS release a mid-cycle upgrade like this gen? I'm sure they'd want to get the power crown back from MS.

Sure exclusives could become an issue, but its about how hard one company wants to go in. I think this time microsoft is going to put muscle behind their launch and will learn from their shortcomings. And about xbox not having exclusives that aren't available on pc, they can always go the timed exclusive route.

Since Xbox games are available on PC as well now, I actually see people sticking to the PS5 for its exclusives.

Not everyone is going for a good performing pc and brand new console. Those who like pc gaming always try to invest more in that, those who love console gaming they will look for consoles. Sure there is overlapping niche too, but imo thats a minority and not a driving factor. They always look for sales, for either the consoles to get cheaper or pc parts to get cheaper, but thats just my opinion.

Sure PS4 won the previous race, but I am looking it holistically, the era before ps4. Anyways these are just assumptions, but I think this time Xbox is gonna give PS5 a tougher fight like it used to do in the old days, but thats just my opinion.

why would they launch a newer machine? I think some titles would work in both but not all. Exactly like when Ps4 launched and was the case with Ps3. They did state this about backwards compatibility though:

an update to the PlayStation blog confirmed Sony intends to support the majority of the 4,000+ PS4 titles with PS5 backward compatibility.

So Ps5 will have backwards compatibility, have to wait for the list though.

I think the titles introduced in next 2 to 3 years would work on ps4

After that it would be ps5 exclusive

Don't want to spend more than a hundred thousand rupees on ps5 for now
