Proposed plans to Raise 2 new Corps in South Pakistan (Opinion)

If you see an average americn household they are ready for a conflict---let alone the US military.
a very solid and deep observation. A nation's strength to fight a war can easily be judged on the items available in its grocery store.

It seems no one wants Pakistanis influence in Pakistan.
For that we have to define what Pakistan is, and what new it brings to the table. If it is democracy, freedom and human rights, why not take American influence as it is?

Hi,

If pak military had built up a 150 K troop strength and equipment to for GCC defense force, raising 2 corps strengths would have been easy as an apple pie, just by rotaing 2 experiences corps from GCC to 2 freshly minted corps from pakistan.

Pres Obama had presented us the solution and power to our region on a GOLD PLATTER.

That act was equal to or greater than the Mughal emperor giving land equal to the skin of an OX. Only the Pakistanis were illiterate to understand the significance of a history making event.
Who would have sustained the 2 corps after the war was over. USA still has to pay our CSF.
Moreover, conventionally, PA has no requirement for 2 corps. While another div or two may help STRENGTHEN the defence, but overall it'd be useless considering the costs.
Raising army corps for COIN ops seems to be imprudent.
Two corps would mean more than a hundred thousand men. This would mean uniforms, rifles, jackets, helmets, NVGs, artillery guns, AT wpns, log vehs, accomodations, medical checkups, pensions, infrastructure, AD systems, cantts, communication eqpt, engineering eqpt, workshops...all funded by an army that has difficulty in managing its funds and has to put rifle procurement plan on the backseat because of scarcity of budget.
Why not spend this much on schools, universities, hospitals, businesses and FC?
In military operations attaining is easy; sustaining is not.

Hi,

GCC would have sustained it.

They would have learnt---better safe than sorry---.

An insurgency can be started any moment and if you don't have assets in place---things will get out of hand very very fast.

2 Corps needs to be raised in South Balochistan and South Sindh,

Corp HQ in Gwadar with Divisional HQ in Turbat and Panjgur.
Corp HQ in Pannu Aqil with Divisional HQ in Tharparkar and Umerkot.

Other than that FC Balochistan (specially south) needs to be more trained and more heavily armed with Advance technology.

Such plan was made during Gen. Musharaf's Era and was about to be done during Gen. Raheel Sharif's era as COAS, but instead of that Raheel Sharif went for raising a Division for CPEC Security.

But current COAS Mr. Bajwa has openly said that he will reduce size of Army to modernize it.
He is retiring in Nov , how is he going to implement such a big change in 6 months with massive political instability in the country.

It could be new policy agreed by all CCs. But this policy can backfire as we are already less in numbers compared to our enemy, military needs to be modernize but n
No, I don't think he "openly" said any such thing.

That is quoted by force magazine Editor.

Probably Saudis ask around what they fund before they fund, doesnt happen that way, extremism was born out of this and as such is not required in Pakistan's society anymore.
Extremism was born when our generals decided to use madressa students for their wars. Army created “Mullahs”. Saudi just funded when you asked them to fund. It wasn’t Saudi which started jihad against soviets, it was Pakistan. It wasn’t Saudi which used madressa students to fight in 47,65,71, soviet war, 99, us afghan war, it was Pakistan. Who invited Saudi funding in Pakistan?
We know Saudi is a salafi/wahabi country so when you invite them to fund and build madressas they’ll build those ones. We didn’t expect them to build Shia madressas did we? Even then their salafi/wahabi madressas which go by the name ahle Hadith in Pakistan rarely do they cause any trouble in society. On the other hand didnt imran khans government give billions in funding to darul uloom Haqqania? Wasn’t that the birth place of famous Haqqani network? Isn’t it the same Haqqani network which was basically controlling north waziristan till 2014? Saudis didn’t fund it, but records show our governments have been giving funds to it. Or how about lal masjid? Who’s been funding, playing with the Mullahs, and created lal masjid? Was it not our military which did it all? Was it not under Ayub’s time that lal masjid was planned and made and the molvi chosen? Was it not the sons of the very mullah we choose who became the biggest Al qaeda and ttp supporters in Pakistan? Was it not our isi and other agencies which kept playing with those Mullahs using them to send fighters to Afghanistan or Kashmir? Was is not our own government which funded them?
The madressas known to produce terrorists and “terrorists” (second terrorist is in quotes because west calls them terrorists whereas I think otherwise) are in fact mostly funded by our own government or run by religious parties we’ve allowed to do politics like juif.
Instead of putting all blame on Saudi maybe we should change our selves first and clean up the mess we created first. It’s easy to blame Saudis but Saudis wouldn’t be able to do shit without Pakistanis doing most of the work.

We didn’t even need to raise 2 new corps. We could have raised 1 corps or 2 divisions and instead could have used irregulars to raise up numbers. We have many mercenaries in Pakistan who are fighting for india rn against us. Had we been smart we could have hit 2 birds with 1 stone. We could have used these anti pak groups fighting us, sent them to Yemen, payed them a fraction of money Saudi gave us and leave it for Saudis, Yemen and them to deal with. We have maybe hundreds of thousands of lowkey terrorists sympathizers and terrorists in Pakistan who would easily fight for us for dollars. We could have used Saudi dollars to ship them all to Yemen while we clean up our country and get flushed with Saudi investments. After Yemen war is ended no need to bring them back. It’s yemens problem now. Imagine Saudis paying us $10k per troop while it only costs us $100 to hire the mercenary. We could have ended terrorism by a big margin in Pakistan while getting flushed with cash.

We could have even had 1 corps permanently stationed at Saudi. Saudis know it’s cheaper to hire Pakistani soldiers then Americans for protections so we could have replaced them and provided protection. Saudi being a monarchy would always want its army to be weaker so it doesn’t overthrow the monarchy. Hiring Pakistani soldiers to provide security and fight for Saudis would have benefited Saudis a lot and been cheaper then them raising troops them self. Saudis could even permanently pay and keep our 2 corps stationed in Saudi cuz it would mean Saudi becomes a regional power while we have heavy influence over Saudi. Win win for both parties involved.

Unfortunately Pakistan never thinks long term

Very well said...

But all bulls should not be treated with the same might...

I think using proxies against India, isn't bad either... But state should not feed them that much that they can be able to challenge state one day.... Pir Pagara's Hur Jamat.... Jamat ud Dawa and Hizbul Mujahideen (Jamat e Islami) are the Examples..... They never challenged the state... Nor they tried to spread sectarian hatred within the society...

While on the other end, groups like Sipah Sahaba, Lashkar e Jhangvi and newly launched TLP had poor record and has been quite trouble some ..

I’m always in favour of proxy war against our enemies. The pro pak examples you mentioned their mujahideen in my eyes but, unfortunately our state has banned the pro pak groups except Hur. I’m not against madressas or molvis but, I find it very hypocritical when Pakistanis put all blame on Saudi for supposed terrorism from their madressas. Groups like LeJ weren’t born out of Saudi madressas rather they were born out of our states misadventures. We always find a way to blame others that’s why we’re never able to solve an issues.

A military-centric security strategy is expensive and doesn't always work.

I would argue that this money is better spent in the complete modernization and restructuring of the intel community, on education reform, and general development in these area
Question is where is the money coming from?
Stop the corruption in para military so the the terrorists may not move men and materials with smugglers.

.
Fork the military - give country to uncle sam on South Korean / Japan modal, all problems will be solved.

The first line is incorrect, what is the use of reading the rest :what:

Read history again, carefully this time to learn a thing or two.

Did Zia suddenly vanish from history?

Ok don’t read it. But what’s written is facts

Read history again, carefully this time to learn a thing or two.
I’ve read it carefully I suggest you read it carefully as well. I suggest you read about how we created extremism. I suggest you read about how we used madressa students for jihad in Afghanistan and Kashmir. I suggest you ask people who witnessed it happening for example elders from tribal areas will tell you in detail how we created extremism. I suggest you ask people who’ve been to places to do jihad for Pakistan because our state sent them there.

Had word with an ex 3 star yesterday if such plan ever existed.. He said yes, raising a Corp for Sindh - Rajasthan Border has actually came under serious consideration after 2001-02 stand-off, when intelligence reports reached GHQ about possible Indian Armoured thrust from Rajasthan into Sindh... (tactical nukes theory wasn't actually existed back then)...

After de-escalation, Rather than raising Corps, it was decided to raise 2 new wings within Pakistan Rangers (Sindh).... With even more border posts all along the barren border...
