German is 1000 times easier than Mandarin because most of the words are similar to English and script is Latin. Chinese is a tonal language and it is a great headache to master the tones and after that learn pictographic script. One of my friends was learning a foreign language and he told that his friends who were learning Chinese were mainly pissed up in passing the exam paper.

Actually dude, conversational Chinese is very very easy to pick up. I'd recommend that you guys implement at least one year of conversational Chinese at high school or have a module for it as a compulsory elective in all your Universities. That would work wonders I tell u. Chinese people are usually very helpful once u take an effort to speak Mandarin. Rest of it, they'd help u get better at it.

Unless if you are interested in reading some of their literary works, which are plenty, then u would need the writing. I'm trying to work on my writing and reading and hopefully I'd be able to read Romance of the Three Kingdoms in Chinese someday.

Its easier for children to learn foreign languages than it is for adults. In the near future, we will have more cooperation with China and Chinese people especially in business, so it will be better for Pakistanis to learn Chinese also.

By the way, I agree English and your regional language is important. Also Urdu is important. How will you communicate with other ethnic groups of Pakistan?
