KABUL (Pajhwok): The process of extending the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) to Afghanistan has been set in motion, a news report said on Friday.

The move is expected to give China a key role in the global war on terrorism, besides boosting its negotiating capability with India and the US, The Times of India quoted an observer as saying.

"CPEC is in one sense a bribe," Tom Miller, author of a new book, 'China's Asian Dream' and a senior analyst at Gavekal Research, told the widely-circulated newspaper.

Kabul has welcomed the Chinese initiative, with Finance Minister Eklil Hakimi recently saying the one belt, one road (OBOR) programme would help boost transportation and energy infrastructure.

“Despite the grand plans, implementing the transport connectivity programme won't be easy owing to the dangerous security situation and differences between the governments of Pakistan and Afghanistan,” the report said.

why they want afghanistan in cpec?
To fight terror, you need to engage with the root problem of terrorism...poverty. Wealth educated people don't generally kill each other since living is more precious. One of the core tenants for China in CPEC is to insure stability in China's western fronts... 100 billion in loans and investment sure beats trillion US spent in afghanistan and iraq war. ROI for such a project is not measured in % returns but how much can you actually recover because strategic benefits far outweighs ROI. China's western provinces receives hundreds billions of dollars in federal aids each year, if CPEC succeeds developing the western provinces, its worth will be in trillions if calculated over 30 years.

Quickest wayvto mine in Afghanistan and export it out is via Pakistan/CPEC
